The Future of Right to Work

Three months ago, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted against becoming the 29th “Right to Work” state, which would have made it the first “Right to Work” state in New England. Despite support from Gov. Chris Sununu and the state Senate, it was not able to break the necessary threshold to get out of the house.

Tax Reform Should End the Deduction for State and Local Taxes to Finance Lower Tax Rates

Good tax policy means having low rates and a broad tax base. To finance a reduction in individual and corporate income tax rates and the lowering of capital gains and dividend tax rates to spark economic growth, Congress, which is gearing up for fundamental tax reform, will look for ways to broaden the tax base through the elimination of certain tax loopholes, such as tax credits and deductions, that taxpayers can currently claim when they itemize when filing their tax return.

A Generational Opportunity for Fundamental Tax Reform

The passage of the American Health Care Act, H.R. 1628, out of the House of Representatives gives an opportunity for the Republican majority to begin work on a generational opportunity: fundamental tax reform. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will head to Ohio on Wednesday to begin making the case for tax reform, previewing the next big item on the House Republican agenda.

America’s Sickly Health Insurance System

I’m beginning to wonder whether anyone in Washington or in the media has the slightest clue what insurance is? Here is a standard dictionary definition of the term: “Insurance — A promise of compensation for specific potential future losses in exchange for a periodic payment. Insurance is designed to protect the financial well-being of an individual, company or other entity in the case of unexpected loss.”

Everywhere a Student Happens to Be Standing Is a "Free Speech Zone"

Free speech on college campuses has become a significant issue. From the riots at Berkeley over Milo Yiannopoulos, to the use of harassment of Charles Murray at Middlebury College, there have been cases of individuals being silenced to stop them from speaking their thoughts on various issues. However, one pressing issue has been administrative support to silence dissent and prevent opposing viewpoints from being heard. This flies in the face of actually learning, of which colleges are supposed to be a bastion.

Support the Private Property Rights Protection Act, H.R. 1689

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representatives and urge them to cosponsor the Private Property Protection Act, H.R. 1689, introduced by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.). The bill would put strict limitations on the federal, state and local governments from exercising its power of eminent domain for economic development.

Lawsuit Threatens Congressional Tool for Fighting Overreaching Regulations

A radical environmentalist organization has filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to strike down the Congressional Review Act, a 1996 law that allows Congress to cancel final rules published by federal agencies. The Congressional Review Act (CRA) has been used heavily in the 115th Congress to cancel last-minute rules finalized by the Obama administration.

FreedomWorks Withdraws Key Vote Against American Health Care Act, H.R. 1628

After the adoption of an amendment offered by Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) that would move health insurance reform in a conservative direction, FreedomWorks has rescinded its key vote against the American Health Care Act, H.R. 1628. We will not, however, key vote in favor of the bill.
