Budget Deficit for FY 2016 Higher Than Originally Projected

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has revised its budget deficit projection for FY 2016 upward, according to a recent report. In March, the nonpartisan fiscal agency projected that the budget deficit for the current fiscal year would reach $534 billion, a 22 percent increase. The latest projection shows that the budget deficit for FY 2016 will rise to $590 billion, or a nearly 35 percent increase.

Regulator-In-Chief: Obama Administration Has Issued 600 Regulations with Costs of $100 Million or More

Near the very end of President George W. Bush's second term in January 2009, economist Veronique de Rugy challenged the assertion by then-President-elect Barack Obama that the two-term Republican had "take[n] a hands-off approach to regulation." De Rugy lamented that the Bush administration, in fact, took a relatively heavy-handed approach to regulation.

Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton Wrong on Infrastructure Spending

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump don’t agree on much of anything, but there is one area where they have a meeting of the minds: they both want to spend way more on public works programs. Hillary Clinton says that her primary jobs stimulus will be a massive $275 billion-plus infrastructure spending binge. Donald Trump one-upped Hillary last week promising to spend twice that amount. He says the money is necessary because of crumbling roads and “bridges that are falling down.”

Reforming the Digital Millennial Copyright Act

Millennials are a disruptive generation. They are the first generation to abandon landline telephones in favor wireless smartphones, the first to cut the cord with pay-TV, and the first to turn to the Internet as their go-to source for music and video entertainment. These trends have many old school industries not just puzzled, but incensed that millennials do not respect the rights of those creating the content they consume.

The FDA's New Overreaching Regulations on Vaping Products Harm Public Health and Destroy Innovative Small Businesses

On August 8, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) new rules on vaping products go into effect. Federal law gives the FDA the power to regulate “tobacco products,” and the new rules cover a long list of products that the FDA is now deeming tobacco products. In a leap of logic that only a regulator could understand, the FDA will apply its “tobacco” regulations to products that do not contain tobacco, such as e-cigarettes and other vaping products. How can this be possible? Well in the mind of a regulator in Washington, the idea that a product or activity might not be subject to regulation is a foreign concept.

Obama Announces New Executive Action to Prevent Economic Growth

If you thought the Keystone Pipeline permitting farce was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet. On Tuesday, the Obama administration announced new regulatory guidance which will inject the same ignorant obsessions of so-called climate change activists into the permitting process of the entire federal government. This action means that bureaucrats and their radical environmentalist allies will now be able to take the same tactics of death-by-permitting-delay seen in the case of Keystone and apply them to every other project affected by the federal National Environmental Policy Act. This means roads, bridges, mines, housing developments, pipelines, and more will now be held hostage to that tiny minority of Americans who would like nothing more than to return this country to the Stone Age.
