Is the Obama Administration Still Artificially Inflating Job Numbers By Counting 'Lives Touched'?

When last month's unemployment rate took a sudden and unexpected plunge to 7.8%, conservatives who thought there was something amiss took a beating in the media.  Jack Welch was particularly excoriated for a tweet he sent out suggesting that the numbers were fabricated, and others who had similar doubts were labeled condescendingly as 'unemployment rate truthers'.

Fisker Karma: Obama's Latest Green Disaster?

In the first presidential debate, Mitt Romney said of Obama’s green energy initiatives “You don’t pick winners and losers, you only pick losers.” The list of so-called losers, which already included the well-known Solyndra and the Chevy Volt also included Finnish car company Fisker. Fisker’s new electric vehicle, Karma, was created with a $529 million loan guarantee from Obama’s Department of Energy (DOE) and, as with previous green projects, it is not looking as though the taxpayers can expect repayment.

Parent Trigger Law Successfully Invoked in California

In the Adelanto Elementary School District, a school choice battle is underway. Although parents successfully executed the parent trigger option to transforming failing Desert Trails Elementary School into a charter school. The school board took this decision to court, and a judge upheld the rights of the parents. The school board, however, refused to comply.

School Choice in Court in Louisiana

In April of this year, Louisiana lawmakers passed two education bills which included enormous progress for school choice in that state. These bills established the largest voucher program in the country, curtailed teacher tenure, expanded charter schools, and tied educator pay and job security to student performance, allowing over 400,000 children new choice in education.

The Passing Of A Legend In Conservative Politics In The Pacific Northwest – RIP Don McIntire, Taxpayer Champion

We lost a conservative stalwart last week when Don McIntire was found dead of a heart attack at age 74. Don still had a lot of good work left in him, and his passing comes too soon. In fact, he was in the process of working on a ballot initiative much like the Wisconsin and Indiana laws that would make it illegal to involuntarily withhold public union dues from the paychecks of public employees in Oregon.

American Virtue and Our Libya Debacle

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  -John Adams

Office Hours with Dr. Brough: “Is Obama’s Recovery Working?”

We get a lot of e-mails at FreedomWorks from people who want to know which economic policies we endorse and why we endorse them. This is a good thing. Economics is a specialty, and it does the republic no good when people pretend to understand economics but aren’t available to discuss their ideas. (This is only a slight jab at Paul Krugman’s debate jitters).

Fisher v. University of Texas: Here’s Your Fact Sheet!

Abigail Fisher and Rachel Michalewicz, two Caucasian women, were denied admission to the University of Texas and subsequently filed suit alleging that the university’s selection process discriminated against them on the basis of race. Lower courts upheld its constitutionality in accordance with the Grutter v. Bollinger (2003) ruling.

Will President Romney Seriously Tackle Entitlement Reform?

In the aftermath of the first Presidential debate last week, I wrote that it was an unmitigated success for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. While it was clear that it was a thorough tactical defeat that has vaulted Romney in the polls and placed Obama permanently on defense for the remainder of the campaign, there was a notable lack of focus on debt reduction.
