FreedomWorks Mobilizes Support to Advance New Pennsylvania School Choice Bill, HB 2468

Harrisburg, PA – After months of discussion among members of the Pennsylvania House Representatives, Rep. Jim Christina introduced HB 2468, a school choice bill meant to improve Pennsylvania’s failing public school system.  FreedomWorks believes that school choice bill HB 2468 is the most effective option to educational reform on the table, and plans to work with parents, teachers, and activists from across the Commonwealth to make sure it passes through the full House and Senate and becomes law.

Renewable Energy more Affordable than Coal?

Yesterday, the Senate cleared the way for the Obama administration’s War on Coal with the failure of Senator Inhofe’s resolution to stop the EPA’s Utility MACT.   Rather than promote the fossil fuels that provide affordable and reliable energy for Americans, the Obama administration is pushing renewable energy that is far more expensive and unable to replace the nation’s abundant energy resources. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which began in 2009 and ran until 2011, opened the federal checkbook for renewable energy firms.

A Liberal Inadvertently Reveals Death Panels Again, Chapter 5,621,980

I'm not normally in the habit of rewarding leftist blogs with links or mentions that drive up their traffic, but today I can't resist. Here in Oregon, owing to the large population of liberal voters in our urban centers, one of the most followed blogs is Blue Oregon. Think of Blue Oregon as a sort of ThinkProgress on a state level.

Hostile Takeover

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe has a terrific new book, "Hostile Takeover". Kibbe describes how the explosion of information choices available to Americans has already changed politics and will continue to do so.  Though not organized this way, there are three broad themes in the book, leading to one inescapable conclusion:Top-down journalism is a dying paradigmTop-down, Keynesian economics is a tool of oppressionTop-down politics is no way to run a free countryThe inescapable conclusion: while there is a lot of work ahead of the advocates for individual freedom and limited government, the decentralization of information has the wind at our backs.

The Cold War Against Global Warming Skeptics Continues

A University should be a place of light, of liberty, and of learning. ~ Benjamin Disraeli A disturbing trend is developing in our institutions of higher learning - a trend that evokes visions of George Orwell or the Soviet Politburo. There have been an alarming number of unexplained terminations of professors who have dared to challenge the orthodoxy of the left. The most recent examples occured at Oregon State University and UCLA within the past few weeks.

The Hunger Champion Awards: Race to Waste

Last year, Ashe County, South Carolina received national recognition from the US Department of Agriculture for their work involving the Department of Social Services. However this attention only highlights the wasteful spending of government. Through the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), a USDA agency, the Hunger Champion awards are handed out annually to local government agencies for increasing participation in food stamps or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).

A History of Serial Hypocrisy

In a recent speech on education reform by Michelle Rhee, the former head of DC public schools made an excellent point about the state of education policy today.  She stated,  “It is amazing how people are all too willing to make policies that impact other people’s children that they would never accept for their own kids. That is one of our biggest problems.”  This simple, yet profound, statement exemplifies so much that is wrong with today’s education system.

California EPA Regulation Puts Trucking Companies Out of Business

Regulations, coming from the California Air Resources Board are knocking hard on the door of small and independent trucking companies in California. On December 12, 2008, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the Truck and Bus regulation to significantly reduce particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen emissions from existing diesel vehicles operating in California. This was part of a national program, established by the EPA in 2001, called the Clean Diesel Truck and Bus Program.
