Conservatives are Doing It For Themselves. Culture, I Mean.

There's lots of talk about taking conservative ideas to the culture in ways that haven't been tried.

John Kasich Embarrasses Himself with Op-Ed Comparison to Reagan

Governor John Kasich, a Republican seeking reelection in 2014, continued his push for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) Medicaid expansion in Ohio with a June 2 USA Today op-ed noting that President Reagan expanded Medicaid in the 80s.

Will An Updated Marketing Effort Help the NRSC In 2014?

In March, I reported on the first signs of new life from the National Republican Senatorial Committee after the disastrous 2012 election cycle, in which conservatives lost ground in the US Senate despite expectations of actually taking over that chamber of congress. Given the rise of new media and the stagnation of legacy media, the NRSC has taken the initiative to facilitate communications by creating a new blogger outreach position.

Shallow Loss: Another Entitlement Program

If you don’t support the Farm Bill, then you must hate farmers or food stamp recipients, right?  Actually, this is not the case, at all; in reality, if you do not support the Farm Bill, you are one of the Americans who are able to spot a waste of taxpayer money when he or she sees it.  The shallow loss program in this year’s Farm Bill is hardly a better alternative to the previous direct payment plan.  Under the shallow loss program, if farming profits fall below 90% of the previous five year’s average, taxpayers will be responsible for covering the difference.  Currentl

The More Complicated, the More Expensive

Once upon a time I worked for a huge company, providing communications for their global IT department. I was gathering a team to work on a big project and asked a couple of the more skilled employees to join.“Sorry, Jon, but we’ve been moved to socks. That’s all we do now.” Not hip to the vernacular of the kids, I wondered when our technology firm started selling hosiery. “No, not the socks on your feet. S-O-X. You know, Sarbanes-Oxley?”

Across America, Parent Trigger laws are being invoked to make changes in failing schools. In some cases, schools are transformed from traditional public schools and, in others, they are used to replace administration officials impeding the success of students.

“Farm” Bill, Really?

On June 3rd, the Senate will resume deliberations on the nearly $1 trillion dollar “Farm” bill. However, the majority of the “farm” bill does not actually deal with agriculture or farms.  In fact, food and nutrition assistance programs (food stamps) such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) comprise roughly 80% of the farm bill, costing tens of billions of dollars.

Tell Your Representatives to Allow Cell Phone Unlocking!

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to co-sponsor H.R. 1892, the Unlocking Technology Act of 2013. Introduced by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and a bipartisan group of lawmakers that includes Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), this bill would simply allow consumers to bypass digital manufacturer locks on devices that they already legally own.
