Internet Taxes Don't Make Markets Fairer

The issue of how to handle sales conducted remotely over the internet has been a thorny one for lawmakers, as they struggle to adapt policies to rapidly advancing technologies. Nine states currently collect sales tax on out-of-state, online transactions, but a new bill dubbed the Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013 would expand this to a national mandate. The argument behind such legislation is that local retailers are placed at an unfair disadvantage, because their prices must include sales tax whereas out-of-state vendors are under no such compulsion.

SC Candidate Forum: A Testament to the Bottom-Up Grassroots Model

FreedomWorks teamed with South Carolina’s grassroots activists to host a two-hour candidate forum in the state’s 1st Congressional District. On Saturday, February 16th, 16 candidates vying to fill the seat formerly held by Senator Tim Scott met at the Embassy Suites Hotel in North Charleston for a substantive policy discussion. A range of individuals—state-level politicians, small business owners, local activists and a former governor—fielded questions on pressing political and legislative matters.

Tell Your Senators to Oppose an Internet Sales Tax

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your Senators and urge them to oppose S. 336, the Marketplace Fairness Act.  Introduced by Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY), this bill would require online retailers to collect sales taxes when shipping to states in which they have no physical presence.

Oregon RNC Member Proposes Working With Tea Party To Ensure November Victories

Much was made of the New York Times article earlier this month that detailed how Karl Rove has created an offshoot of American Crossroads to fund candidates in Republican primaries that are, in the estimation of well heeled GOP donors, "more electable". At Breitbart.com, Ben Shapiro described it as Rove having declared war on the Tea Party.

Corporate Welfare in the Federal Tax System

Frequently, entitlement reform is discussed among policymakers as a way to reduce government spending, but the entitlement reform discussed often concerns individual entitlements, not those directed toward corporations. A recent examination of the federal tax code by the Cato Institute’s Tad DeHaven found that each year corporate welfare in the tax code cost taxpayers nearly $100 billion.

CBO Report Confirms That Deficit Reduction Leads To Economic Growth, Helps All Families

On February 5, the Congressional Budget Office released a report titled, "Macroeconomic Effects of Alternative Budgetary Paths". Full disclosure: even to us policy wonks, this report sounds a bit dry. Not exactly 50 Shades of Grey, if you know what I mean. But this report did contain some very interesting nuggets.
