The Obama administration decided to pick a handful of fights that put our Bill of Rights at the center of the discussion. While I'm no fan of their liberty-crushing agenda, I'm always happy to have a discussion over the virtues of our founding documents and the rights they protect. There's one part of this discussion though, that needs to be addressed. There's a blanket argument bouncing its way around lefty spheres that goes something like this:
Laura Bledsoe wasn't that interested in politics of any kind, least of all conservative politics. The back-to-nature farmer would be considered a bit of a hippie to many traditional Republicans. But Laura's foray into community-supported agriculture has turned her into a Tea Party hero, highlighting a growing alliance between limited-government activists and small organic farmers.
FreedomWorks Applauds Utah Governor for Resisting Federally Approved Health Care Exchanges
Washington, DC- Following news that Utah Governor Gary Herbert walked away from negotiations with the Obama Administration to create a federally approved health care exchange in the state, FreedomWorks Vice President of Health Care Policy Dean Clancy issued the following statement:
Here’s when you know that political correctness running amok hurts real people: when tiny children engaging in imaginary play are punished for pretending to be heroes. Although it seems impossible, it’s exactly what happened to a seven year old second grade youngster in Loveland Colorado. LOVELAND, Colo. — A 2nd grader has been suspended from school in Loveland for a make believe game he was playing.
Mandatory Sick Leave is Bad Medicine for Workers and Employers Alike
So much for a mandate. As President Obama heads into his celebrated, historic and transformational second term, the American people are distinctly distrustful of the government over which he presides. For the first time ever, a majority of the public says that the federal government threatens their personal rights and freedoms. The Pew Research Center found that 53 percent of Americans view the feds as a threat while only 43 percent disagree.
There's Still Time to Block ObamaCare Exchanges in Idaho!
Idaho is among the reddest of red states, and would seem to be an obvious frontrunner among the states resisting ObamaCare's health care exchanges. Indeed, Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter has long been a vocal opponent of ObamaCare, and even signed an executive order banning his state's employees from enforcing ObamaCare.
The federal government was created by the states. Simple enough, right? In the era of massive federal government expansion, simple facts are easily lost. Lest we lose hold of our plumb line, even the simplest, most basic tenets of our founding principles bear repeating.
I’ll admit it, I only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Usually, my favorite is one of the funny commercials but, this year, I have to give the prize to “God Made a Farmer.” Yes, the woman who never gets sappy over television, books, or movies, got sappy over a commercial for a truck.
