Obama to Eliminate Tax Breaks

The president recently announced plans to crack down on what he calls "corporate tax abuses."  He is seeking another $200 billion out of companies over the next ten years that do business internationally.  Whether he calls it closing a loophole or a tax hike, it will have the same effect as raising taxes by $200 billion on American businesses.  That might cause the elimination of more jobs, drive companies to more tax-competitive countries, and slow business in the United States.  Government should not tax and spend more, especially in a recession.

Obama's empathetic judicial poison

Barack Obama’s statement that “empathy” would be a key qualification he’d look for in a nominee to replace David Souter on the Supreme Court is not simply soft liberal thinking, it’s a direct attack on the rule of law, an abrogation of Obama’s oath of office – and entirely consistent with Obama’s prior statements. Obama’s statement about the process of selecting his nominee included this:

Chrysler and Sacrificing for the "Greater Good"

A blog post over at the Foundry by James Gattuso, helps reveal the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) as a delegated blank check to Administration bureaucrats.  Check it out here.  Some excerpts:

No more bailouts, Br'er Durbin?!?

Last week brought a rare victory for the free markets and the sanctity of private contracts: By a 51-45 vote, the Senate defeated a measure championed by Democratic Senator Dick Durbin (Illinois) which would have allowed judges to reduce the principle amount of a mortgage on a primary residence during a bankruptcy proceeding. Twelve Democrats, including Arlen Specter, voted against the plan.

Key Vote NO: Conference Report on S. Con. Res. 13

On behalf of hundreds of thousands of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to vote “No” on the Conference Report on S. Con. Res 13, the Obama-Pelosi-Reid budget.  Their budget taxes too much, spends too much, and borrows too much.  And, potentially worst of all, it would open the door for socialized medicine and a massive energy tax to be enacted later this year without substantial debate through the reconciliation process. No one voting for this budget—Democrat or Republican—will have any creditability in the future as a fiscal conservative.

Unions Oppose Panama Free Trade

Big Labor is gearing up to fight a free trade agreement with Panama supported by the President, Speaker Pelosi, and many republicans.  The agreement would reduce or eliminate tariffs and other trade barriers between the two countries.  The administration could present the deal before Memorial Day.

Prelude to ObamaCare

Without intending to, today's New York Times exposes the inherent problems with government rationed health care services, with lobbyists jockeying for advantage in the Medicare reimbursement game.  Already a dominant purchaser of health services, Medicare has created a shortage of primary physicians by cutting reimbursements.  Now imagine a world where all Americans are herded into Medicare....  Infinite demand for free services, skyrocketing costs, and some Grey Suited Soviet with a clip board determining if the medical procedure you need to live is worth the cost to the Treasury.
