New CBO Deficit Projections: Running Out of Road for that Can We're Kicking

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its updated budget projections, and there's no sugar-coating the numbers. The federal government’s annual budget deficits were already slated to start rising again in 2016, but thanks to some discouraging economic growth predictions and a bloated budget deal that added tens of billions in new spending, we’re now looking at returning to trillion dollar annual deficits in only six years (2022).

Net Neutrality Is Already Restricting Consumer Choice

When the FCC began to seriously consider imposing Net Neutrality standards on internet service providers, I had many concerns. I wrote an article at the time called “Rebutting the President on Net Neutrality,” in which I listed my disagreements with a policy that, on the surface, sounds reasonable to many. One of the more controversial points I raised was in response to the “No Blocking” principle, which forbids ISPs from picking and choosing which content they provide access to. I wrote:

In His Final Year, Obama Reaps What He Has Sown

Even as President Obama took to the national stage to assure the nation that the state of the union is strong and that the American economy is robust, back in the real world, the cracks were starting to show. For years, economists who understand the consequences of government interventionism in markets have warned that the policies of easy money, reckless spending, debt financing, and tight regulations could only lead to disaster. The mirage of short-term job growth, low inflation, and a booming stock market had to come to end. While it was impossible predict exactly when it would happen, logic and history dictated that the fiscal house of cards Obama has spent the last seven years meticulously building must, eventually, come crashing down.

Maryland to Vote on Asset Forfeiture Reform

As states’ legislative sessions start up, asset forfeiture reform appears to be a high priority for many. As the practice by which law enforcement agencies can seize people’s property without due process gains more exposure to the broader public, a demand to return to constitutional principles and the “innocent until proven guilty “ standard seems to be having an effect.

Obama’s Vacuum of Leadership Creates Opportunities for Congress

President Obama opened his eighth and final State of the Union Address with an admission that “expectations for what I’ll achieve this year are low.” If expectations are low, it’s because Americans have seen nothing in the last seven years to inspire them with any confidence in the administration’s ability to solve real problems.

The Times Are Changing

In 1964, singer Bob Dylan released the song "The Times They a-Changing" at a time in our history when it was necessary for our nation to produce a personality that could speak to the conscience of a racially divided and emotionally troubled America. Dr. Martin Luther King became that voice for many who could not access opportunity, especially in the Southern United Sates. In 1964, the times in virtually all corners of this country were vastly different for people of color and women than they are today and definitions of terms like equal opportunity had a dramatically different meaning than progressive liberals place on it in 2016.

Progressive Bureaucrats: A Major Governance Issue

The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse. —James Madison, Speech in the Virginia State Convention of 1829-1830 http://www.freedomworks.org/democracy-and-power-101

Profiles in Liberty: S.B. Fuller

You’ll never hear the name of Samuel B. Fuller in your African American Studies class. His story is a remarkable one, but not exactly a narrative your Marxist professor wants heard.
