Globalization and You

Tuesday, the House is expected to vote on HR 3920: The Trade and Globalization act of 2007. Like George Costanza deconstructing the word manure, the innocuous title belies the more sinister aims of the bill.

The Mother of All Tax Hikes on Small Businesses

This oped originally appeared at Townhall.com on Oct 26th. Lost in the hoopla over Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel’s (D-NY) “Mother of All Tax Reforms” to repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax and reduce the corporate tax is the plan’s punitive tax increases on small businesses – especially small and closely-held exporting firms.

Smaller Cars are Twice as Deadly

Global Warming and Double Dragon

When I was a kid, I loved playing arcade games, especially the 2-D fighters like Bad Dudes and Double Dragon that were prevalent at the time. The structure of the games was pretty simple: You'd walk through a hilariously under-animated two dimensional environment taking out swarms of lowly henchmen, and every so often you'd run into a boss. The New York Times reports this morning that the FCC has taken a look at exclusive contracts between cable companies and apartment complexes and said, roughly, fuhgetaboutit. Kevin Martin, tireless advocate of government management of the telecom sector, argues that the idea is to spur competition between providers.  It's true, folks.

Rangel's Tax Attacks!

We've already noted some of the problems in Charlie Rangel's tax bill. Today, the WSJ piles on, giving us a pretty solid rundown of much of what's wrong with proposal, which we're now, I think, legally* required to refer to as the "mother" of all tax hikes.
