Senator Coburn: Claims Versus Reponses on Earmarks

BY

The Senate is voting this week on a one-year earmark moratorium, and some so-called conservatives are trotting out questionable arguments in defense of earmarks.  Senator Coburn gave an address last night that answered these claims and his staff is circulating these arguments.

Key Vote "Yes" Stop the Raid Amendment

On behalf of hundreds of thousands of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to VOTE “Yes” on Senator Jim DeMint’s “Stop the Raid” amendment; to be offered during the Senate debate on the FY 09 budget resolution.   “Stop the Raid” is an excellent opportunity for Congress to protect the Social Security surplus currently in the fund, staunching the flow of money from a rapidly bankrupting account Congress has borrowed for its own schemes.

Key Vote "Yes" on Earmark Moratorium

On behalf of hundreds of thousands of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to VOTE “Yes” on Sen. Jim DeMint’s Earmark Moratorium Amendment; to be offered during the Senate debate on the FY 09 budget resolution.  The Earmark Moratorium calls for a no-nonsense year-long moratorium on congressional earmarks.

Key Vote "NO" on the Senate Fiscal 2009 Budget Resolution

On behalf of hundreds of thousands of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to VOTE NO on the Senate Fiscal 2009 Budget Resolution. The budget that was reported out of committee calls for huge tax increases by allowing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire. This would amount to more than $680 billion in new taxes over five years.

Democrats "Can't Have it Both Ways on Trade"

BY

Sens. Obama and Clinton are scape-goating NAFTA and free trade on the campaign trail as the pander to the Democrat base.  Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria deftly explains why the candidates can't have it both ways:

Capitol Hill Press Conference Rallies Support for Earmark Ban

Check out the photos from today's press conference with Senators Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn and Representatives Paul Broun, John Shadegg, Jeff Flake, Jeb Hensarling, Marilyn Musgrave and John Campbell. This group of conservatives has been leading the charge against wasteful and corrupt earmarking in Congress. FreedomWorks joined several other organizations to applaud their efforts, and we hope that their colleagues will support their efforts, especially since the leading three presidential candidates have agreed to the-one year earmark moratorium.
