Call Senator Lamar Alexander to Stop the EPA Train Wreck!

By Brendan Steinhauser on November 08, 2011

Senator Rand Paul is trying to stand up to the EPA, and he needs OUR help.

Using the Congressional Review Act, Sen. Paul has introduced S.J. Res. 27, a 'resolution of disapproval' that would allow Congress to overturn the costly Cross State Air Pollution Rule, which is part of the EPA Train Wreck.  This costly new regulation will cost $2.4 billion annually and threatens to take 7 gigawatts of power off the power grid—enough to power 7 million homes. Worse, companies must comply with this regulation by January 1, a deadline that provides no flexibility and is sure to raise overall costs.

Sen. Paul is trying to pass his 'resolution of disapproval' as soon as possible, and he needs all Republicans and moderate Democrats to support his bill. Unfortunately, Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander is trying to pass a 'Trojan horse' bill that would derail Sen. Paul's efforts and do nothing to stop the EPA Train Wreck.

Sen. Alexander has introduced a bill—S. 1815—co-sponsored by the Democrat from Arkansas, Sen. Mark Pryor, that is being construed as a bill that would delay the implementation of the Cross State Air Pollution Rule.  Yet the bill does much more than that.  It actually codifies the regulation, which means that once it is implemented, it cannot be challenged in the courts.  Currently, there are more than 70 parties, including several states, challenging the rule; these people would be denied their day in court if S. 1815 is passed.

Please call Sen. Lamar Alexander today and tell him to support Sen. Paul's resolution of disapproval, and tell him that you oppose S. 1815 . Below are his office numbers in Tennessee and Washington, D.C.  Please call today; he urgently needs to hear from those opposed to this costly regulation.
