Hundreds of Thousands of Patriots March on DC
Yesterday was a historic day for freedom. But if you watch television news, or read the newspapers, you wouldn't know it. Only C-SPAN really captured the event, with their live broadcast from the West Front of the Capitol Building. The media coverage was absolutely pathetic, grossly underestimating the size of the crowds at Freedom Plaza and the Capitol.
But pictures don't lie, and although I don't know exactly how many people marched yesterday, it's safe to say it was one of the largest protests in Washington, ever. Check out this time-lapse video from above Freedom Plaza, as the crowd gathered to march. Also, our friends at Free Republic put together this great photo collage of the crowd on Pennsylvania Avenue. Watch NBC's coverage here.
Then, check out this great website with pictures showing the huge crowds at the west front, the reflecting pool, and down Pennsylvania Avenue. As you can see from the pictures, we filled both the side grassy areas along the west front, and the center of the west front. Then, the crowd spilled over onto 1st street and all around the capitol reflecting pool. Then it spilled over across 3rd street and down the mall for a few more blocks. At the same time, people were still backed up along Pennsylvania Avenue for hours all the way to Freedom Plaza. It was an incredible sight to see from the capitol.
We will be uploading our own photos and videos in the days to come, but for now, if you are uploading your own photos to flickr, please tag them 912dc.
Thanks to everyone for helping make this event a huge success. It was a great day, and one for the history books.
