Join the Protest to Stop Mitt Romney from Co-Opting the Tea Party in Concord, NH on Sep. 4th!

By Brendan Steinhauser on August 31, 2011

After months of distancing himself from the tea party, suddenly Mitt Romney wants to be one of us.

That's right, the big-spending former governor who signed Massachusetts' very own version of ObamaCare is scheduled to take the stage this Sunday at a rally in Concord, NH to lecture real conservatives about limited government and fiscal responsibility.

FreedomWorks and tea party groups from around the region will be there. But not to hear more platitudes from an establishment hack posing as an outsider.

We'll be there to tell the real story about Mitt Romney, and to protest his record, which represents everything the tea party stands against.

After all, if we don't hold candidates accountable for their actions while in office, who will? If we let ourselves be used as pawns to provide cover for the establishment, then what is the point of having the tea party?

We're standing on principle, not politics. Will you join us?

Martha PetersenYou have just lost my support, FreedomWorks. What is wrong with you? Tearing up a conservative because he isn't perfect enough for you? I'm spreading this around and encouraging the large numbers of conservatives I know to stop supporting you. Really bad call on your part!

Lori PShame on you Freedom Works! To try and silence Mitt or at least ruin his opportunity to connect to other voters is NOT AMERICAN. The Tea Party Express is not behaving in the manner that conservatives, republicans and Christians should behave. I am for the most accomplished, most honorable and most qualified person who can beat Obama. Romney's health care was supported by the people the liberal legislature and was for the most part a success. The people wanted the 7.9% uninsured to be insured since they were paying for it anyway. Romney tried to do the job he was elected to do in a very liberal state. He did not raise conventional taxes. His team balanced the books. They made EVERYONE responsible for their own health care and provided choices. He said it would not work on a national level. He got rid of the state's deficit. He left a surplus. To this day, despite liberals tampering, the state only has 1.9%. He is not a perfect candidate but to basically sick the hounds on him is unforgivable. The only candidate that has the broad support, money, volunteers, infrastructure and has raised millions for the GOP is Governor Romney. He is not a career politicians. He has similar views as Reagan had. He has similar stands to Palin. Do your homework and stop being a bigots. As a Lutheran, I find it unseemly. Go to MittRomneyCentral.com and get the facts on this fine and decent man. Do your homework on all candidates. Give ALL of them a chance to be heard. We are lucky to have a man of Mitt's caliber run. His background, education and record is admirable. He served without pay as Governor. He served without pay as head of the US Olympics in 2002. He got the corruption out. This man is a patriot and a leader. Thank God he is willing to serve and stop trying to torpedo him.

Lori PIn addition, "Mass Care" was only 72 pages, had no pay offs, bribes, exclusions, special deals or waivers. To compare Obama's monster bill of 2,000+ pages written by the Apollo Foundation while he campaigned is just inaccurate, unfair and misleading. Mitt and his team did what no other state had the guts to do. It was a good start and a good trial balloon. By the way, Perry was a Gore supporter and that means he is socialist leaning. A Gore democrat is not like a JFK democrat like Reagan was. Perry met with the Bilderbergers in 2007 to pass muster just like Clinton, Obama and Hillary did. He mandated Guardisil which got Merck off the hook from irate parents and health concerns since it was required by the government. Sure, he revoked his mandate but he sure jumped when told to mandate it. Who pulled his strings? In addition, he was for the NAFTA superhighway and the ramifications of that bill. He seems to be a Globalist just like Obama but with an accent. He got in to the race suddenly after swearing he would not, because the elite power mongers were afraid that wild cards like Romney, Paul and Bachmann would win. Mr. Cain is a likable fellow but as a former Fed Chair, that will not sit well with Libertarians and Constitutionalists. He has something else in his past that has not been fully explored on purpose as the left is waiting for the ripe time. Freedom Works -get over yourselves! Mitt Romney may very well be our last hope to save America. By doing what you have, you are splintering the base more and guaranteeing Obama's second term. We won't recognize America in a year let alone after he gets more time to dismantle our country and remove our freedoms.

Lori PHow odd that Perry's state is the only state to produce 47% of the new jobs. Is that because of a healthy business climate or entrepreneurs? Could it possibly be that the New World Order folks designed things that way. It might be that they plan to replace one puppet with another since the Obama puppet's charm has faded.

Mark McCollYes this is a bad idea and is rightfully receiving a lot of condemnation here BUT everyone makes mistakes. DO NOT ABANDON FREEDOMWORKS SO QUICKLY (or Brendan for that matter). They have done, are doing and will do way too much good for the cause of limited government, fiscal responsibility and increased freedom for us to drop our support. We all need to rally around the goal of making sure that Obama is not reelected . FreedomWorks is working tirelessly (and effectively) to insure that no matter which Republican takes the Oval Office in 2012, they are supported with a Conservative majority in both the House and Senate. I think we all agree that replacing the RINOS and progressives in the House/Senate will be much more important than the getting the "ultimate" Conservative in the White House. And except for this one mistake, that is where FreedomWorks did such a great job in 2010 and, with our support, will again in 2012. Let's overlook this one misstep.

Sue SaundersFreedomWorks double shame on you! You should welcome anyone that wants to speak to Tea Party supporters especially Mitt Romney. Your protest against Romney has created a great disservice to the organization and I am rethinking my membership and support of FreeedomWorks! Your declared protest against Mitt Romney is highly divisive within the organization. How about sticking to the original Tea Party principles and allowing “We The People” to do our own voting. Mitt Romney is for similar principles as Tea Party supporters. I am concerned and find the Tea Party leadership in question at this time and am wondering what other hidden agendas may be in place. FreedomWorks you have overstepped and should issue a formal apology for your blunder! Otherwise, you can count me as an ex-member!

kevin.hansen711Hey, fellow Mitt Romney supporters... Join us for the Anti-Anti-Mitt Romney protest against FreedomWorks. Try - just for one second - to look past the rhetoric, and you'll see that Romney doesn't represent 'everything the Tea Party stands against.' To say that is to overlook the conservatively principled accomplishments he's had in his short political career, along with even more achievements in business. Your little Anti-Mitt Romney get together is going to do less to bringing the party and this country together and contribute to the various efforts of the liberals to divide us and conquer us. We cannot get where the tea party wants to go when the GOP is even more split than it is. I'm sick and tired of hearing what people are against. Why not hold events that are positive and represent what you want to see this country accomplish in the next 4, 8, 100 years? do you not have enough faith in people that they will be able to see which candidates do or don't have the characteristics and principles you are encouraging in our leaders? Have you sold out to the media perception that negative press and bashing are what people respond to and will believe? You'll be much more effective in influencing change if you show people the direction to go, rather than focus on why you feel others are going the wrong direction. If all I did at work was harp on what a co-worker is doing wrong, rather than show others how to do things the right way, I'd come of as a jerk and people would stop paying any attention to me.

Ron Stear"Standing on principle, not politics" Sure you are.. Everyone on this site should have a common goal. Ensuring that Obama is a One Term President. I like several of the candidates and while I don't completely agree with any of them I want to make sure I put my support behind the one that has the best chance to beat Obama.. Mitt just happens to be high on that list.. If you disagree with his position fine.. Debate it.. Don't support him. whatever but we must unite and focus our attention on the goal of taking back the White House, not political infighting..

KC GibbonsI don't think this is a good idea at all. Its just so...Barack. Protesting a Republican candidate, even one you do not support, sends a message to the world that the Tea Party and the Republicans are fighting among themselves. We need to be rid of the huge mistake that is currently in office by voting him out. We need to be one united party and/or force. If you do not care for Mitt Romney, then do not vote for him. Petulance is unbecoming and counterproductive. I also think it unwise for the Tea Party or Freedom Works to endorse any particular candidate in the primary. We will lose the independents that way. It will provide the appearance of fissures within the Tea Party/Republican party - which like it or not- needs to be a solid front. Let the primary election select a candidate and at that time, get behind the candidate 110%. The goal here is to fire Obama and his thugs. The media and the hateful liberals are just salivating for any tidbit to smear, malign, and damage the Right. Do not provide any. Do not feed the trolls! Do not lose sight of the real objective. O must go!

Lisa HillTo sum up the words of President Reagan; A good republican never criticizes another republican. It's early in the primary, let their voices be heard; otherwise we sound like the left wingers. Lori PThis just happened in Pennsylvania. It is hard to believe that since Obama got in office, cameras are on every corner, riot police would threaten and use Nazi tactics on peacefully assembled citizens and our rights would be so trampled upon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=171X022c9Gk&feature=share WATCH THIS VIDEO AND BE SHOCKED. This is not the America I grew up in. During the race riots, it only got out of control due to the Communist and radical instigators machinations. Americans are not bigots. The democrat party was built on slavery, secession, segregation and socialism as well as the KKK. Dr. King voted for Eisenhower as per his own niece who was at Beck's Restoring Honor event. Dr. King's wife got bamboozled by black radical opportunists The historical documents show the true history of the Republican party and incredible contributions to the black community. http://www.NBRA.info The Republican party was never anti-black. Lincoln freed them, we started the Underground Railway, black colleges and gave the first loans to help them start businesses. Republicans provided the crucial votes needed to pass Civil Right Act (that democrat LBJ had blocked as speaker of the house). Democrat Al Gore's daddy and card carrying KKK member democrat Robert Byrd blocked the passage of the Act. The democrat party has been built on lies and is supported by Communists, Socialists, America haters, rabble raisers, community organizers, militants, Black Panthers, radical Nation of Islam members and modern day slave masters. Unemployment in black communities is 20%. Obama wants to keep blacks and Hispanics down. Big business wanted cheap labor and democrats wanted to change the electorate so they opened the door to the rest of the world. Both parties slit the throats of American citizens, sold out our country, made it necessary to know Spanish to get a job and kept wages down by importing cheap labor. With that said, Republicans/Indies/Conservatives/Constitution Party are still our best hope to restore America and take her back from the edge of disaster. The Tea Party is a movement NOT a political party. It is full of all faiths, colors and parties.

Brenda CopelyAs contributors to Freedom Works and supporters of the Tea Party efforts and message, I am greatly offended by your actions against Governor Romney. You shame yourself with such actions and you will ultimately fail because of them. Governor Romeny is a conservative business man who has accomplished many wonderful things for America, economic stability for Mass, governing and maintaining balance in a primarily liberal state -try that on for size would you? He saved the honor of America by turning around the Olympics and he campaigned and contributed to the election of many of our current conservative congressmen and senators. Just because he does not go around blowing his own horn all the time like others in this race does not mean he is not conservative enough and does not mean he is not a supporter of the Tea Partry message. He is a conservative businessman and he will make one helluva President, returning honor and respect, responsibility and maturity to the office here and around the world. His character is impeccable and he is a gentleman and a scholar. The actions you are encouraging make you no better than the most vicious and empty liberal. I am shocked and ashamed of you. I agree with Marth - you have lost my support and just what is wrong with you? I will spread the word as well. What you need to do now is make a public apology to Governor Romney and make it your business to meet with him and get to know him and his message for America.

Lori Pchristina: I was so happy that Trump was pushing for Obama's b.c. and commenting on his sealed records and expressed doubts about his Harvard education. I thought, WOW a true patriot. I am not so sure now. He has consistently put down the GOP field. Trump works for NBC. NBC got 30 million in bail out. Right after Trump pounded the drums about Obama's B.C. (it seems to be a compiled image NOT a true copy of the original) Obama FINALLY put out something ONLINE ONLY on 4/27/11. Obama's lawyers (paid for with tax payer dollars) were in court on 5/2/11 defending the Obama against the law suit regarding his eligibility. A few days later, Osama Bin Laden (Democrat secretary of state Madelyn Albright said he was dead years ago) suddenly get "killed". The buzz about Obama's bc still does not go away as Citibank & McGraw Hill forgery expert and dozens more file charges with the FBI that Obama's online bc seems to be a forgery. Dr. Corsi's book was given to Trump early on request. Trump denies it despite signing a non-disclosure. Trump refuses to push harder (as he promised Corsi he would) to push Obama to provide originals and open his records. Trump then refuses to take questions and uses foul and inappropriate language with audience in Vegas. Trump stopped talking about Obama's eligibility. The sequence of events indicate that Trump (who just got a sweet deal in Chicago for gambling and a skyscraper) made a big deal about the BC and Obama's sealed records to get the attention off the eligibility trial and Dr. Corsi's book. When it did not work, they rolled out a fake Bin Laden story. No pics, no interviews with the Seals, no awards ceremony and a fast burial of his supposed remains at sea is all the public got. For years I have been asking for someone neutral and famous to step forward and call out Obama. When Trump did, I was elated. However, it looks like he just helped Obama NOT America. Obama blinked and took ownership of a document that is very questionable. Perhaps Trump, a graduate of the finest military college in America and presumably a patriot, is responsible for that happening. On the other hand, he works in a crime, thug and union infested business (gambling) and has a hit show on the very network that is carrying Obama's water. Trump also got a gambling deal thanks to Obama's former Chief of Staff, Mayor Rahm Emanuel (another dual citizen). Trump refused to do what he told Dr. Corsi he would---keep pushing on Obama in exchange for an early copy of "Where's The Birth Certificate". The world thinks Obama put out the proof. He instead just opened the door to more questions, speculations, wild rumors, gossip and mistrust of this un-vetted President. Fox News had Obama's brain and benefactor, George Soros try to ruin it. Soros's Media Matters tried to get Fox's advertisers to pull out. EVIL IS IN CHARGE of our beloved country right now. If you want to learn more about Obama, please visit the site that the US LIBRARY OF CONGRESS has included in their archives for its historical significance. http://www.TheObamaFile.com It contains all the info the media suppressed.

Lori PI still would like to believe that Trump was asked to push for Obama to spit up his papers and draw attention to the fact he had not. Fact Check owned by Obama's former employer stated that Obama was born with dual citizenship (his dad was a citizen of the UK as Kenya was under British rule and it passed to the offspring). Fact Check was too ill informed to know that dual alliances or allegiances would automatically disqualify Obama from the Presidency. They quickly took it down but now before Activist Pamela Geller of WND.com & Atlas Shrugged got the screen shot. Obama should never have been allowed to run. http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/09/obama-admits-th.... *************************** As far as Trump being smart and having sense, agreed. The guy makes his living with the unions and in my opinion mafia. The mafia is not out of gambling. They just don't advertise it. It may be regulated but is it as corrupt as ever. I want integrity and honor restored. Trump has played both sides of the fence and has a mouth like a sewer. He lied to Dr. Corsi and said he would push Obama ===he backed off. Either Trump was threatened or it was just a scam to make the public think it was resolved by making a big deal about it and cooked up with Obama's handlers. As I said, Trump works for NBC that lies for Obama daily and he just got the contract for gambling and a hotel in Chicago. It seems he was playing America.

Lori PMitt has said similar things to what Sarah Palin said at her debate with Biden. Nobody knows what is causing it. If pollution from cars and factories make a layer that keeps heat in, then yes, it is partially man made.He has said, like many experts that the earth has been cooling and heating since records of it have been kept. As far as social issues. Reagan passed an abortion law. Mitt simply said that he is Pro LIfe but since the federal law is on the books, he would respect it. He also had a mom who was Pro Choice since her friend had an illegal abortion and almost died. Many people who were Pro Choice years ago before technology advanced to show that indeed it is not just a glob of cells in the early stages, are no longer Pro Choice. Democrats and hypocrites are Pro Choice. They should just call themselves Pro Death since that is the nub of it. Mitt worked with a liberal legislature to provide a solution AS PER HIS JOB DESCRIPTION. It was an attempt to solve a complex issue on a small scale. People in Mass THAT ARE NOT LIBERAL PLANTS have had very positive things to say about it. Mitt is the obvious choice since the rest do not have the money, volunteers, infrastructure and have not helped the GOP like Mitt has. He has the most private and public experience as well. The Tea Party should not pick any candidate. The Tea Party should back the most qualified and able to beat Obama. You are not doing your own research on Mitt. Glenn Beck is best friends with Huntsmen's dad. Perhaps that is why he is not for Mitt. Mitt has not flip flopped. He has evolved like many candidates do and they find their way. Mitt was an Independent at one time. In his personal beliefs he is conservative. He is moderate in public policy perhaps.

Lisa MIllsWow. I was seriously offended by this anti conservative rally as well. I am so sick of conservative cannibalism. I am very happy to see these posts and see there are still true Tea Partiers who are tired of the Party antics. Thanks especially to Lori P. You've done your Mitt homework. Everyone else should do the same and then choose their candidate. Conservative cannibalism destroyed Colorado politics and the hypocrisy of people who called themselves Tea Partiers put a democrat in the Governors office. I'm also tired of so called Tea Partiers adding their "social agendas." Tax and Spend. That's it. No more. Just tax and spend. Concern about Romneycare is understandable. But like Lori P. do your homework. Mitt Romney's only objective in instituting his Health Care program in Mass was simply to solve one problem - get people who could afford their own health care to stop mooching off of their hard working, tax paying, insured neighbors. That was his only agenda. Personally I believe that is exactly what the original Tea Partiers like myself stood and still stand for. Remember...."Honk if I'm paying your mortgage?" In Mass it was honk if I'm paying your health care. He has integrity standing by what he did and incredible focus to stay on task and solve that one problem and unlike Congress today, he was able to keep his liberal legislature on focus as well to solve what his own constituents saw as a problem. Good for him. He also has humility to admit he is teachable. To rag on someone for being a "flip flopper" is to say the opposite - that people can't learn and change. Mitt is one of the most honest, upstanding and charitable people I know of and a true patriot who understands the role of America in the world. If anyone has a chance of getting rid of the corruption that is hog tying our economy - Mitt does. He understands business not only on the local and national level, but on the global level. He understands the absolute connection between political power and economic power. He's a solid candidate. Other candidates have their high points as well and deserve full investigation and consideration as well. Be careful though - if you are looking for someone loud and dynamic, who can "wow" the crowd and entertain an audience - who has amazing charisma and serious showmanship - remember those are the things that put Obama in the white house.

Instead of being grateful that anyone would want to take over the pathetic state of affairs and sinking ship that Obama has been sailing, some factions of the tea party are trying to hurt one of the few candidates that has a real shot of creaming Obama in 2012. He has the broad support, the resources, volunteers and has helped the republican party with fundraising. What should be of concern are the plans by Obama's administration to make it dangerous for us to go to the polls. Inside sources predict that what we saw in 2008 with the Black Panthers intimidation tactics (You Tube it) on the East coast at the polls (Holder of the DOJ refused to prosecute "my people" despite video evidence) will be nothing compared to what Obama's people have planned for 2012. All they have left is the race card and white guilt in turbo drive. *********************************************************************** Why do you think 3,700 UPS uniforms were stolen recently? Orchestrated terror and mayhem would be one conclusion. Perhaps somebody just likes how they look in brown uniforms.. Our focus should be on stopping the infighting, uniting as a country, electing the most honorable and qualified person to office, fixing the problems, removing the traitors and corruption but most importantly making Obama a one term President. Either you are part of the solution or you are the problem. There is not much time left. We unite together or these dangerous people who are determined to destroy our freedoms and country stay in power permanently and America as we know it is forever lost. There will be no do overs after this election. This will be most important one in history.

David ChaffeeYou have also lost my support, Freedomworks. There is something terribly wrong with an organization trying to stifle any candidate. As a voter I have my choice of a candidate. As a part of various Tea Party organizations, I try to get all the various candidates views out there so that other voters can make a more educated vote. Very bad call.

mark.mcternan@Brendan: "Who's this "We" -sucka?" I don't blog for a living because I work for one. I donate a substantial amount of money every cycle to the candidates which support freedom. I was really impressed with FreedomWorks... Until now. Talk about co-opting the Tea Party, what would you call this? I won't be giving any more support to Freedomworks because of this asshat move. Do FreedomWorks a favor and show you have some integrity: apologize to your bosses, to Gov. Romney, and to us for dragging the previously good name of FreedomWorks through the mud. Then append a poll to your apology to determine by popular vote if this colossally bad idea should cost you your job. Let the people you claimed to speak for decide.

Frances MounteerCOUNT ME OUT TOO. I JOINED THE TEA PARTY THAT WAS BASED ON PRINCIPLE AND DID NOT ATTACK CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES. SHAME ON YOU, I MAY OR MAY NOT VOTE FOR MITT ROMNEY IN THE PRIMARY DEPENDING ON THE WHO ELSE RUNS. BUT WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM VOTING FOR HIM FOR PRESIDENT. WE WOULD BE FAR BETTER OFF IF HE HAD BEEN ELECTED INSTEAD OF OBAMA

geoff.mcgeeWhat a terrible idea. An anti Mitt Romney rally? Really? Don't we have a bigger fish to fry? While I am not yet decided as to who will win my vote come 2012, I can safely say that Mitt is one of the best. Is his record perfect? No. Has he avoided the Tea Party movement? Yes. Now he wants to court us and we're upset? Really? One of the top candidates for president realized the validity of the movement and we're now looking to stage a rally against him? Instead of being offended we need to see it for what it is, validation. We should rally FOR the people running for the presidential nomination. Let's get the message out that Obama is a one term president, that government is too big and takes too much out of our pockets. We need to help the people running for office to realize that if they hope to take office then they need to do damn well all they can to return America to its roots. If they’re not willing to abide by those principles then they need to reconsider their life goals or switch parties. God bless America.

Berl KaufmanI agree with many of the posts in response to the anti-Romney rally: it is probably not an ideal forum to redirect our focus from the true enemy of freedom. On the other hand, we all should acknowledge that any government involvement in healthcare is an obscenity. And the worst part of the Romney's program is that it leads people to conclude that it just might work on a national level if it achieves even moderate success in MA. It is a socialist agenda, plain and simple. I am dismayed that Lori and the others on this site see it for anything less than it truly is. Tea Partiers must stand on principle. We don't have a cohesive, well organized structure. Absent this structure, we have to make sure that our message is not diluted with support for politicians - even well intentioned politicians like Romney- who do not adhere to the strict pinciples of free markets. My daughter, who resides in NY State, is starting at Boston University next week. She has to abide by a boatload of health insurance rules, and I have to buy state-mandated insurance for her. Romney didn't just sign this plan into law - he championed it. I don't care what his other accomplishments were. This is Socialism we are talking about here, plain and simple. Let's support Ron Paul, but let's not trash other Conservatives in public forums.

Lori PRon Paul stands for a lot of good things. He is an establishment candidate sucking off tax payers for 30 years and has never run more than a doctor's office. He is anti Israel, has not rejected his Nazi supporters, has said dozens of borderline crazy and controversial remarks, does not have broad support, has done little but moan and groan and showed at the last debate what a naive isolationist pacifistic ridiculous candidate he is. He is a patriot but our country needs someone who has more than just rhetoric. If you were elected to solve a problem in a state, would you just throw in the towel and say, sorry, our bipartisan oversight committee can't think of a way to solve it or would you cobble together the best one you could produce and make concessions to get it passed. The liberals own Mass. They gave Mitt a mess and Teddy Kennedy wanted him to fail so that Hillary would get credit.

Lori PEducate yourself and show respect where respect is due. A problem solver and a leader is what we need. Too bad if you Paul people want legal pot and are for him because he won't send you to foreign wars. NOBODY wants to continue to be in the Middle East or funding countries that hate us. http://youtu.be/0KyiQWtp6Og

Lori PBachmann, Palin, West, Santorum, Cain and a few others would be great in this fight to take back America.Freedom Works and Pauliacs attempt to splinter the base which is mostly Reagan Conservatives and falsely maligning a good man and candidate is not helpful. Mitt is more conservative than Reagan was. Reagan was a democrat and passed abortion law, granted Amnesty and made many errors. Mitt said he would repeal Obama care, enforce immigration law, have an e-verify system, beef up our national defense, stand by Israel, remove regulations that destroy growth, reform our entitlement programs, keep taxes down, help small businesses, and go after our own resources. That works for me.
