Liberal Bloggers Threatened by Grassroots Protests Against Socialism

By Brendan Steinhauser on Jul 18, 2009

Liberal bloggers at Fire Dog Lake and DailyKos appear to be threatened by the anti-big government protests occuring across the country these days. I say that because they are trying to downplay the significance of so many people taking to the streets against government-run healthcare. Note their dismissal of Friday's nationwide day of protests outside congressional offices:

The Freedomworks home page today leads with a short report about a teabagger protest outside another Democrat's office, Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia, and claims it "was just one of hundreds protests (sic) that happened around the country, from coast to coast."

In his speech to the July 4 Tea Party in DC (viewable on his Conservative Revolution blog), Steinhauser promised that there would be anti-ObamaCare protests today outside the district offices of every Member of Congress and the Senate.

Somehow, I don't think that happened. It seems only Democrats got the astroturf teabag treatment today, and not that many of them, at that.

Today I did a quick Google News search for "health care protest" and came up with a bunch of news stories that covered local protests. I'm hearing reports back that groups of 40 or 50 were common, and Asheville, NC had 200 protesters. There are more pictures from around the country here and here.

The left can pretend that these protests aren't real, or that they are "fake grassroots" but even they know better. These are real people who have been pushed up against a wall for too long, and they are mad as hell. Fire Dog Lake and DailyKos are being disingenous and losing credibility with even their unhinged readership when they deny reality. It's one thing to debate the policies of your political opposition, but it's quite another thing to pretend they don't exist. C'mon guys, don't embarrass yourselves anymore.

Here is video from Asheville, NC where 250 people showed up on Friday.
