Obama and Drug Companies Colluding on Healthcare

By Brendan Steinhauser on August 08, 2009

Despite what the pathetic left-wing liars will tell you, FreedomWorks is on the side of the taxpayers in the healthcare debate; not rent-seeking big businesses. Obama and his liberal allies are working with PhRMA, the big, bad drug companies, to push government-run healthcare on the American people. Check out this great piece today from David Epso.

The nation's drugmakers stand ready to spend $150 million to help President Barack Obama overhaul health care this fall, according to numerous officials, a staggering sum that could dwarf attempts to derail Obama's top domestic priority.

The campaign, now in its early stages, includes television advertising under PhRMA's own name and commercials aired in conjunction with the liberal group, Families USA.

Numerous people with knowledge of PhRMA's plans said they had been told it would likely reach $150 million and perhaps $200 million. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to divulge details.

Liberal blogs and MSNBC are trying to write off anti-Obamacare protesters as shills of corporate America. But why is it that they are silent about the support the big drug companies, who stand to gain from Obamacare, are giving to the effort? And what about Wal-Mart's support for Obamacare? Last time I checked they were a big corporation, too. Why is it that the media, liberal blogs and others get away with calling us "astroturf for corporate interests" when the reality is that big business and big government are colluding to screw over the taxpayer??

Conservatives and libertarians need to make this point loudly. Our opposition stems from our belief in the market system, and our belief in liberty. FreedomWorks has consistently opposed big government for over two decades, no matter who was in Congress or the White House. We took on George Bush's tax hikes when Dick Armey was still a Congressman from Texas. We challenged Bill Clinton's tax hikes and supported welfare reform. We publicly beat up on George W. Bush for bailing out Wall Street and spending more money than anyone since LBJ. And in 2009 we have led the fight against Obama's stimulus, bailouts, cap and tax and socialized medicine.

Corporate America usually sells out and cuts deals with the federal government in order to get some competitive advantage. They are rarely on the side of freedom and limited government. It's the small businesses that tend to support our efforts while the big guys are rent-seeking for favors and handouts. As a movement, we need to remind everyone of this, and start driving this point home in the media. We can't let the White House, liberal blogs and MSNBC get away with lying about us, slandering us and trying to demonize us. This healthcare fight is about lower taxes, less government and more freedom. Our opponents include all those that support bigger government, whether they be Members of Congress, the President, leftists or corporations like Wal-Mart and PhRMA.
