Rand Paul Leads Effort to Get Vote on Audit the Fed– Contact Your Senators!

Sen. Rand Paul is leading an effort to get a vote on auditing the Federal Reserve as a condition for considering the nomination of Janet Yellen for Federal Reserve chair. Sen. Ted Cruz has released a statement supporting this strategy to finally get a vote on auditing the Fed:

I agree with Rand Paul:  before the Senate votes on whether to confirm Janet Yellen, we should at the very least allow a vote on the Audit the Fed bill. The Federal Reserve has expanded our money supply by trillions, benefitting Wall Street but making life harder for millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet. Never-ending quantitative easing threatens to undermine the dollar and to drive up prices on everyday goods from food to gasoline to the basic necessities of life. We need to bring transparency to the Fed, so the American people can understand the scope and consequences of its policies.

The bill to audit the Fed, S. 209, currently has 27 cosponsors. The only Democratic senator to cosponsor is Sen. Mark Begich of Alaska. Last session, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refused to bring the House-passed audit the Fed bill to a vote! Even though, the idea is popular among the American people and Reid used to be an outspoken supporter of auditing the Fed. In 1995, he said on the floor, “I think it would be interesting to know about the Federal Reserve. I think we should audit the Federal Reserve. It’s taxpayers money that is being used there.”

This legislation is important because the people deserve to know who the Federal Reserve is bailing out behind closed doors. Here is a targeted list of Republicans who have not cosponsored the audit the Fed bill yet. Please call them or tweet at them and politely ask them to cosponsor S. 209!

Remember that just because they are not cosponsors yet, does not automatically mean they do not support auditing the Fed. Three new cosponsors have been added in the last two months.
