Marco Rubio Money Bomb Nearing Goal

By Max Pappas on February 10, 2010

Florida's limited government US Senate candidate Marco Rubio's much-heralded Feb. 10 "money bomb" is nearing its goal of raising $787,000 today to send a message to Washington.  Why $787k? That's one thousand dollars for every billion dollars of President Obama's "stimulus plan".  Why Feb. 10?  That's the day Rubio's primary opponent, Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, had an event with President Obama celebrating the passage of the "stimulus"--which Crist said he'd vote for and defends to this day.

The Republican establishment, including the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) backed Crist, who is also a big supporter of the cap-and-trade energy tax, and was seen as the prohibitive favorite.  Limited government activists in Florida weren't interested in who Republicans in DC supported, and have tapped into the tea party movement to nationalized the race.  The Real Clear Politics average of recent polls now has Rubio up by almost 10 percentage points.

Sen. Jim DeMint's Senate Conservatives Fund PAC is also bucking the establishment and getting behind Rubio because of his support for limited government and has brought in over $100k today to go along with the money bomb.

FreedomWorks and our network of activists in Florida have long been aware of Marco Rubio as a strong force for limited government and a defender of private property rights against Kelo-like eminent domain takings.  If you're interested in finding out more about Rubio, here are some links to going back to 2005 highlighting our work with him as he fought big government in the Florida House and his stances on the issues:
