Champions of Freedom Cruising

Cook Political Report has raised its midterm projected gains for House Republicans to a range of 35 to 45 seats. Cook has changed the ratings for 10 races with Democratic incumbents, moving 3 races from “Likely D” to “Lean D” while moving 7 from “Lean D” to “Toss Up” races. Republicans need 39 seats to win back the majority in the House of Representatives which was lost to the Democrats in 2006.

FreedomWorks PAC Champion of Freedom Ron Johnson also received some great news from Cook as they have recently moved his Wisconsin Senate race against incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold to “Toss Up”. Despite the fact the Republican primary is still weeks away, Johnson is seen as the presumptive nominee and has moved the race from “Likely D” to “Lean D” to “Toss Up” in less than a month.

In Nevada, Rasmussen Reports has released a new poll showing FreedomWorks PAC Champion of Freedom Sharron Angle and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in a dead heat, 47-47%. When Rasmussen includes voters who are leaning but have not committed to a candidate, Angle takes a 50-48% lead over Reid. Even more interesting, Angle leads Reid 52-35% with voters who don’t identify with either party. With the data in this latest poll, Rasmussen has moved the race from “Lean D” to “Toss Up”.

The latest Gallup poll has troubling news for Democrats as well. Republicans hold a 13-point advantage among independent voters and are even with Democrats among those claiming a party affiliation for the first time all year. In voting preferences for the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans hold 50-43% advantage over Democrats. This 7-point advantage represents the strongest position for the GOP yet and moves them past the crucial 50% threshold.

Last night, FreedomWorks PAC Champion of Freedom Dino Rossi topped all of his Republican opponents in the Washington Senate primary. Despite a unique system which featured both the Democratic incumbent Patty Murray and all of the Republican challengers on the same ballot, Rossi captured a solid 34 percent of the votes.

Rossi now faces Murray, an infamous pork-barrel spender from the Appropriations Committee who has been in the United States Senate since 1993. Her spendthrift ways have been predictably rewarded by the liberals in power, as she now occupies the fourth-highest leadership position in the Democratic Senate caucus. While Rossi has pledged to forgo all federal earmarks, Murray continues to run on her promise to bring pet projects home on the taxpayers’ dime.

FreedomWorks PAC is drawing from its membership base of more than 11,646 strong in Washington to develop a grassroots campaign that will help lead the way in Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts on behalf of Rossi post-primary. These non-stop efforts included door-to-door literature drops, yard sign distribution, and direct phone calls to Washington voters.

“We were inspired by our success in ousting big-government incumbent Bob Bennett at the Utah state Republican Convention last May,” commented FreedomWorks PAC National Field Director Russ Walker. “Our goal was to create a strong ground game here in Washington as well. It is no coincidence that 7 of the primary victors so far this election cycle have been endorsed by FreedomWorks PAC.”
