"Protesters urge West Haven to resist implementing common core curriculum in schools"

On Monday night a group of grassroots activists in West Haven, CT armed with signs and handouts tried to urge City Council to delay the implementation of Common Core. They successfully argued that the new standards would essentially treat every student the same and it collects data. The groups goal, along with Jessica Chiong, who is a Republican school board candidate is to get everyone to come to the next "Board of Education meeting to say no for spending the money next year."

Michigan Education Reform Includes Stopping Common Core

When we think of states to look to in terms of free markets and the responsibility of personal choices, most of us wouldn’t think of Michigan first, or second. Let’s face it, Michigan wouldn’t crack most peoples’ top ten. However, Michigan is making progress; away from so-called progressivism. Michigan’s shiny new status as a right-to-work state is one of the biggest steps towards this new, freer Michigan.  It is moving away from its union-tied nanny-state history. What should not be overlooked, though, is what Michigan is doing in education.

Jeb Bush and the Common Core Money Trail

Florida is known for having great options when it comes to school choice and, in some ways, that remains true. After all, Florida provides many options for families in public, private, and online education, which is far more than a lot of states provide. However, all is not as it seems in Florida.

“100% Security”: Obama’s Cradle-to-Grave Surveillance

At a congressional hearing in March, Senator Ron Wyden asked the question that a leaked FISC order answered weeks ago. “Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?” “No sir,” replied James Clapper, the NSA’s Director of National Intelligence. “Not wittingly.”

Common Core - Resources and Information from the Experts

The state of our nation's education and the standards by which both students and educators are held should be of importance to all of us.  Common Core State Standards are national math and language arts standards that are being implemented across the country despite pushback from legislators, teachers and parents.

Testimony by Mary Kass, Louisiana

BY Mary Kass

My name is Mary Kass, married and a full time working mother of three. I was concerned about the direction of our country and wondered if my children will ever know the meaning of true freedom? Or even what kind of government they will inherit? I spent the last 4 years studying history from the Founding Fathers to the Progressive Movement, networking with other conservative groups and Tea Party leaders. I am the Co-Founder and President of The Greater New Orleans Tea Party. As of today, I have presided over the Tea Party with 330 meetings that include seminars, workshops, freedom picnics and my favorite—RALLIES. My number one issue today is the Common Core State Standards. I believe this is the fundamental transformation of our Education system. It will dismantle our form of government, eliminate parental rights and destroy our state sovereignty. I have no intention of retiring from the Tea Party, for I believe to be free one must be vigilant. The Tea Party mindset is here to stay. My Common Core journey began with this posting on my Tea Party Meetup site May 12, 2009:
