RE: Emergency Speaker’s Briefing: This coming Tuesday, April 20th, Florida House Speaker Johnnie Byrd will host a private meeting with CSE activists to bring us up to speed on last minute attempts by advocates of big government to abandon fiscal responsibility and damage Florida’s economic growth.

Date: April 16, 2004

The 2004 Florida Legislative session is scheduled to close in two weeks and liberal voices there are actively seeking ways to enact their big government agenda in the final days. House speaker Johnnie Byrd knows CSE well and understands how we can help police such activities and pressure legislators not to increase taxes, hold the line on spending, and foster economic growth.

As a true fiscal conservative, Speaker Byrd has been committed to working with CSE to enact polices of limited government and lower taxes and he has contacted me recently to ask for our help.

There our some key economic issues up for a vote in the next two weeks and he expects a tough battle to keep fiscal responsibility as a priority. We have scheduled an emergency meeting with Speaker Byrd next Tuesday, April 20th at 9:00AM in his Tallahassee office. The Speaker will brief us on these crucial issues and provide insight as to where the “roadblocks” and “landmines” lie in both the House and Senate. After our meeting we will corner targeted representatives and senators and let them know how we stand on these critical issues.

I have contacted the Days Inn, located at 3100 Appalachee Parkway and they have agreed to offer our group rooms at very reasonable rates. I apologize for the short notice, but I hope you can come to Tallahassee Monday afternoon or night and be ready for lobbying efforts Tuesday on the issues that you and I know are so critical to Florida’s economy and our pocketbooks.

If you would like to take part in this special opportunity and meet with Speaker Byrd, please contact me as soon as possible. I can be reached by phone at 561-392-4432 and via email at john.hallman@realtor.com. Again, please get back to me very soon so that I can reserve a room for you and inform the Speaker’s Office of our exact head-count. I realize Tallahassee is very far for many of us – but you and I know that is where the decisions are made!
