Bush Seeks Global Emissions Reduction

President Bush today unveiled his plan today to begin negotiations on a strategy to significantly reduce greenhouse emissions and set attainable goals for reduction by the time he leaves office in 2009. The president, who has previously refused to sign on to any Kyoto provisions, envisions this strategy to be a successor to the treaty. It remains to be seen if this agreement would include any economically harmful and anti free market cap and trade legislation which had been a sticking point for the Administration in Kyoto negotiations.
