Citizens Thwart Trial Lawyer’s Attempt to Steal State Senate Seat

Jacksonville, FL – Florida Citizens for a Sound Economy took action last weekend in the State Senate District 6 special election by dispatching dozens of activists to help educate voters in this critical tort reform election showdown. The result? The deceptive trial lawyer tactics didn’t fool voters and the pro-reform candidate, Stephen Wise, won in a landside victory.

FL CSE activists volunteered their time

to help spread the word and put up signs.

Working on behalf of Florida consumers, Florida CSE recognized that one of the candidates for this pivotal Senate seat, W.C. Gentry, was little more than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Gentry, a Democrat who contributed more than $40,000 to the Democratic Party last fall, switched parties to run as a Republican in this heavily Republican district. Gentry is a trial lawyer whose firm received $200,000,000 from the Florida tobacco lawsuit. He is leading a group of trial lawyers who, using deceptive tactics, will stop at nothing to repeal Florida’s consumer-friendly tort reform law. This law has helped to unclog Florida’s crowded court system and reduced the number of frivolous lawsuits.

To protect Floridians from Mr. Gentry’s disingenuous actions and liberal agenda, Florida CSE’s activists descended on the district to educate voters.

CSE activists visited nearly 1,500 homes

and handing out information on the special election.

More than 30 CSE Members went door to door in stifling heat, visiting nearly 1,500 homes over the critical final weekend. CSE also distributed more than 1,300 yard signs throughout the district. Nearly 500 CSE activists were contacted by telephone, reminding them how important one vote can be, particularly in Florida. On Election Day, several activists worked the polls, distributing flyers and pamphlets warning people about the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

This is further evidence of the impact of grassroots activism and how it can make a difference in the lives of real people.
