Conservative Leaders to Congress: Reject this Washington Deal
"Make no mistake, a vote for a deal like this is a vote to move forward with Obamacare."
Washington has been abuzz this week with deals and rumors of deals to raise the debt ceiling and end the government slowdown. While Washington is looking for a deal--the next in a series of political decisions that ignore and delay the tough choices facing our nation--Americans are asking for solutions. The American people do not care who is winning or losing the political gamesmanship in Washington, they want solutions that will bring them relief from the harmful effects of Obamacare, runaway spending, and a federal government that too often does not respect our basic freedoms and values.
The latest deal offers no meaningful relief from Obamacare. No defunding of the law, no delay of the law or even the individual mandate, no protection of conscience or an end to abortion subsidies. No elimination of the unlawful exchange subsidies for members of Congress and their staffs. So while Washington is taking care of politically connected special interests, Americans around the country will continue to be exposed to the harmful effects of Obamacare. Make no mistake, a vote for a deal like this is a vote to move forward with Obamacare.
We commend House and Senate conservatives who have fought for months to provide relief to Americans from Obamacare and who have stood resolute during this slowdown. Over the objections of President Obama and Senator Reid (and even some Republicans), they have continued to offer commonsense plans to re-open government--even to temporarily lift the debt-ceiling--while continuing to make the case that Americans deserve the same relief from Obamacare that the politically connected receive. We can do better than just another Washington deal. Americans deserve more than political gamesmanship. We must continue to fight to provide real, meaningful relief from Obamacare. Anything less is unacceptable and should be opposed by conservatives.
