CSE Cheers Senate Passage of Two Year Internet Tax Moratorium

Yesterday the Senate voted 57 to 43 to extend the Internet tax moratorium for two years and also rejected an amendment by Senator Enzi (R-WY) that would have laid the groundwork for states to eventually collect sales taxes for on-line sales.

As a grassroots advocacy group that fights for less government, less taxes and more freedom, Citizens for a Sound Economy has long supported a tax free Internet environment. A blanket moratorium on the taxing of internet based sales is an important element in providing economic stimulus and incentives for increased investment in new technologies.

Paul Beckner, President of CSE stated: “Especially at such a crucial time as our economy now faces – with an economic downturn and consumer confidence shaky – we need to promote nascent technologies that can help our economy regain its footing.”

Since the House has already passed a companion bill hopefully the measure can be sent to the President for signature quickly thereby creating consumer and business incentives in time for the holiday buying season.

“I want to thank the Senate for their foresight ,” continued Beckner.
