CSE Endorses Jim Zupancic for U.S. House

Washington, D.C. – Today, Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) endorsed Jim Zupancic, a Republican for the U.S. House of Representatives in Oregon’s Fifth District, and recognized him as a 2004 Champion of Freedom.

CSE is recognizing Jim Zupancic based on his well-established reputation as a champion of lower taxes, less government, and more freedom, and for his responses to CSE’s 2004 Freedom Survey, which re-affirmed his deep commitment to these principles.

CSE’s Freedom Survey is being sent to all candidates seeking the office of President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House in 2004. The Freedom Survey specifically asks where candidates stand on the key elements of the CSE Freedom Agenda, including:

* Social Security reform that includes the creation of Personal Retirement Accounts (PRAs) without cutting benefits or raising taxes
* Fundamental reform of the tax code to include making permanent the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts
* Tort reform to end lawsuit abuse
* Welfare reform that strengthens the work/training requirements as proposed by President Bush
* School choice to give all kids educational opportunity

CSE President Paul Beckner made the following remarks: “On behalf of our more than 9,000 CSE members in Oregon, I am proud to recognize Jim Zupancic as a ‘Champion of Freedom.’ He is a proven tax fighter and will be one in Congress. Jim stood by us when we fought to defeat Oregon’s largest tax increase. He is a true friend to taxpayers and he will keep his promises to the people in the fifth district of Oregon. Citizens for a Sound Economy is proud to endorse a real fiscal conservative, Jim Zupancic for Congress.”

CSE will continue to recognize Champions of Freedom like Jim Zupancic in critical races around the country this year. To find out more about CSE’s endorsement of Zupancic and other Champions of Freedom, visit www.cse.org.
