CSE Hosts Florida’s Largest Gathering of Conservative Activists this Year

Orlando, FL – Activists demonstrated their resolve in the fight for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom during Citizens for A Sound Economy’s (CSE) first ever Liberty Tree Convention when, working with staff, they devised a strategy that will further CSE’s efforts in the state and allow them to have a greater impact on public policy.

The strategy emerged in breakout sessions during the convention’s second day that identified volunteer leaders for CSE within different Florida communities. These leaders have agreed to help carry CSE’s message of lower taxes, less government, and more freedom by handing out CSE materials, signing up new members, and even forming CSE clubs in their local communities. In turn, CSE stands ready to assist them by supplying educational materials, issue petitions, and candidate surveys and pledges. CSE is also willing to provide guest speakers for local events and can assist in scheduling lobby visits with activists’ state and federal lawmakers.

Over 100 activists attended to the Liberty Tree convention.

The Liberty Tree Convention produced immediate marching orders for Florida activists to gain signatures and grassroots support for a nationwide petition to members of Congress to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, a petition to Dick Gephardt (D-MO) and Tom Daschle (D-SD) to safeguard Social Security by enacting personal retirement accounts (PRA’s), and a school choice pledge for Florida state house candidates.

Mary Ann Hogan won a trip to Washington, DC.

The first ever Liberty Tree Convention was hosted by CSE on August 11 and 12 and addressed activists’ roles in bringing issues such as taxes, social security, and school choice to the forefront of the policy agenda, both in Florida and on a national level. The convention featured speakers from CSE, the Cato institute, and the Florida Legislature including Rep. Rob Wallace and Speaker of the House Tom Feeney.
