CSE Urges YES Vote on H.R. 8, to Permanently Repeal the Death Tax

KEY VOTE NOTICE TO THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

June 17, 2003

Dear Representative,

On behalf of the nearly 280,000 members of Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE), I urge you to vote yes on H.R. 8, the “Death Tax Permanency Act of 2003,” a bill to eliminate the death tax once and for all.

The death tax is a massive double tax on business capital, which is vital to increased productivity and job creation. Money that would otherwise be used to invest in new and innovative technologies, or more efficient tools and equipment, is sent to the U.S. Treasury for no other reason than someone died.

The death tax is immoral and unfair, and it hits small business and farmers the hardest. There is simply no justification for taxing the legacy that a parent or grandparent worked so hard to create and pass on to their children and grandchildren. The federal government should not be the most notorious grave robber in America.

CSE will count this as a KEY VOTE to be reported to our members in your state. This KEY VOTE will be used to determine your eligibility for our Jefferson Award, to be presented at the conclusion of the 108th Congress. This award is provided to those legislators who support the CSE principles of limited government, lower taxes, and more freedom. If you have any questions, please contact Brenna Hapes at (202) 942-7629.

Sincerely,

Paul Beckner,

President and CEO
