Day 3: Fond du Lac, New London and Merrill

We are still riding across Wisconsin supporting the conservatives in the Wisconsin recall election. Yesterday was a huge day! We had three great events in Fond du Lac, New London and Merrill. Wisconsin is a beautiful state, and we have been received at every stop by incredible groups of Wisconsonites.

For me, the most memorable moment from yesterday occured in New London. We were greeted by these guys:

Out in force, no? I think the unions got the message back in Hudson. Around 50 of them showed up, making all the noise they could, and we were still louder. Wisconson would not be silenced by their thuggery! Since then, the protesters have gotten much quieter, and there were none at last night’s event.

So back to the guys in New London. There are few things that irritate me more than being told that I’m threatening. For reference, I am 5’2. I carry around a phone covered in pink rhinestones. I was barefoot. Maybe it was the FreedomWorks tee-shirt that instilled the fear? I’m not sure. I relayed the story of my encounter with union protesters rallying against Scott Walker. I relayed the story of the local business in Kenosha the day before that had been bullied into canceling on us at the last minute, afraid for her business. I told him about the dozens of Wisconsonites I’ve met on this trip who were asking us not to take their pictures because they feared the consequences of attending a Tea Party event.

THAT is instilling hate and fear. I may or may not have gotten a little fired up.

The New London event was wonderful, and Congressman Reid Ribble even made an appearance in support of Scott Walker and the legislature.

We wrapped up the day in Merrill, right on the Wisconsin River.
