Due Process, not Drone Process: FreedomWorks Stands With Rand to Protest the Barron Nomination

FreedomWorks urges its membership to contact Senators and object to the nomination of David Jeremiah Barron to the First Circuit Court

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks supports Senator Rand Paul in protest of law professor David Barron, President Obama’s nominee for the position of First Circuit Court Judge. Barron wrote legal memos for Obama that authorized the execution of American citizens overseas without due process.

FreedomWorks issued its first ever Key Vote “NO” against a judicial nomination on Monday. FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented:

“If you believe that the Bill of Rights applies to every American citizen, David Barron is a dangerous choice for the First Circuit Court. If you believe in the idea that Americans are ‘innocent until proven guilty,’ David Barron is a dangerous choice. If you believe the President does not –and should not- have the authority to kill any American citizen without due process, David Barron is not the judge for you.”

Members of the Senate on both sides of the aisle, Democrat and Republican, have expressed serious concerns with the nomination of David Barron. FreedomWorks agrees, and is urging any American who believes in “due process, not drone process,” to call their Senator and urge them to vote “NO” on confirming David Barron.

Kibbe added, “This is not a partisan issue, it’s a civil liberties issue. The Fifth Amendment states that no American may be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law- not drone process at the discretion of the White House. It’s the president’s moral and constitutional obligation to nominate judges that will defend individuals against the power grabs of the Executive Branch, whether the Oval Office is occupied by a Republican or a Democrat.”
