Florida CSE Helps Crush Brevard County Tax Hike

It’s only getting tougher to raise taxes in the state of Florida. That’s because CSE members are on the job.

Florida CSE activists in Brevard County worked tirelessly to mobilize voters in opposition to the proposed $1.3 billion tax increase. CSE’s efforts were a major success, and Brevard voters defeated the increase by a resounding 65 percent to 35 “No” vote on November 4.

The sales-tax increase would have been instituted alongside a substantial surge in spending. That spending proposal was despite the fact that, among other things, the taxable population in Brevard County has increased, the revenue to Brevard County has increased significantly, unemployment has dropped, and the existing sales tax revenues have increased in real dollars.

Florida CSE activists distributed flyers and wrote letters to the editors of their newspapers. Major media hits included articles in the Palm Beach Post and the Sun Sentinel.

As part of this campaign, Florida CSE also activated a new toll-free taxpayer hotline, 1-888-564-6273, where citizens can be connected to their County Commissioners and also get more information about future Sunshine State tax increases and how to fight them.
