Freedom Works Key-Votes H.R. 6, the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007

On behalf of more than 800,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 6, the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007. As you know, energy is a crucial resource for our everyday lives, whether it is heating our homes or fueling our vehicles. Even more importantly, energy is a vital component to a strong, competitive economy and necessary for sustained growth.

However, our energy independence and energy policy in the United States need to be driven by the free market, not political posturing in Washington, D.C. This legislation, proposed by House Democrats, is nothing more than a new $14 billion federal program that will grow the size of government while spending valuable taxpayer dollars on untested technologies. To date, the government’s record on funding alternative fuels has yielded few returns for consumers or for reliable energy.

It is time to end wasteful energy subsidies to unproven technologies that have done little to make alternative energy sources more practical or available. Rather than imposing costly mandates on energy providers, it is time to let the free market and competition provide solutions to our growing energy needs.

FreedomWorks urges you to avoid spending billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies and instead allow the market to dictate our energy policy. FreedomWorks will count your vote on H.R. 6 as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard. The FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes Representatives with voting records that support economic freedom.

Sincerely,
