FreedomWorks’ Statement on the Federal Highway Bill and Ex-Im Reauthorization

Ahead of expected votes on the federal highway bill, which will likely include reauthorization of the crony Export-Import Bank, FreedomWorks National Director of Grassroots Noah Wall commented:

“Supporters of the Export-Import Bank acted like the sky was falling when Congress didn’t renew its charter this summer. Obviously, these Chicken Littles were proven wrong. The sky didn’t fall, the economy didn’t crash, and taxpayers were better off without having to bear the burden of risky loans doled out to politically connected corporations and Beltway insiders.”

“There are already serious problems with the highway bill, but its reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank makes this already bad deal for taxpayers even worse. This is blatant pandering to special interests on K Street and another knife in the back of the conservative grassroots."

In July, FreedomWorks issued a key vote “no” against any attempt to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. Votes on the federal highway bill with reauthorization of Ex-Im attached will be included on our 2015 Congressional Scorecard.
