FreedomWorks ‘Key-Votes’ H.R. 2355; The Health Care Choice Act

Dear Representative,

On behalf of the more than 800,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE YES on H.R. 2355, the Health Care Choice Act. With health insurance premiums increasing, an effective solution is needed to help reduce these costs. This bill would allow customers to shop around for more affordable out of state insurance. Americans are free to buy just about anything they want from any state they choose, regardless of where they live—except for their health insurance. Congress needs to pass this bill as a step forward in promoting choice and competition in the health care industry, which would help make health care more affordable for all.

This legislation would particularly benefit those Americans who are uninsured because coverage is too expensive in their state, as well as the many workers who purchase their own health insurance because they are self-employed or do not receive coverage as a benefit from their employer. Voters deserve an affordable policy that is not subject to soaring costs as a result of over regulation of the insurance industry. Much of this regulatory burden is imposed at the state level, where some state governments have piled on the regulations so thick—often at the request of special interests—that the health insurance is prohibitively expensive. Because of state regulations, consumers are forced to pay for coverage that they don’t need.

Introduced by Rep. John Shadegg, this legislation enjoys bi-partisan support with 71 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, and would amend the Public Service Health Act, allowing Americans to buy health insurance in any state. This important measure would bring competition to the health insurance market by allowing policies to compete on a national level. Consumers would be presented with a wider range of options, giving us the chance to purchase policies with more or less coverage depending upon our needs and wants.

FreedomWorks will count your vote on HR 2355 as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard. The FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes Representatives with voting records that support economic freedom.
