FreedomWorks for America Celebrates Grassroots Upset in the NE Senate Primary

Grassroots-backed conservative Ben Sasse defeated opponents in a decisive primary victory

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks for America activists across the state of Nebraska are celebrating a major victory for underdog challenger Ben Sasse in the Nebraska Republican Senate primary. Sasse was polling at a mere 5 percent in September 2013, and trailed by double digits in the polls prior to FreedomWorks for America’s endorsement. FreedomWorks for America’s decision to support Sasse resulted from intense demand from over one thousand conservative grassroots activists from across the state.

“Ben Sasse’s upset victory is a testament to the power of an empowered and relentless grassroots community,” commented FreedomWorks for America President Matt Kibbe. “The GOP political establishment can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on attack ads, but they can’t buy authentic grassroots support. They can’t buy the countless hours that volunteers spend walking door-to-door, talking to neighbors, or calling fellow Nebraskans to talk about the issues that matter.”

Hundreds of activists took to the streets to “Get Out The Vote” for Sasse in the months leading up to the primary. Over 69,963 calls were completed to targeted primary voters statewide, with over 21,000 calls completed in the final 72 hours leading up to the primary election day. In addition, FreedomWorks for America launched an aggressive online campaign reaching hundreds of thousands of likely conservative voters on the internet using search, display, video, and social advertising.
