FreedomWorks for America Responds to the Kentucky Senate Primary Results

Washington, DC- After the polls closed in Kentucky and the Republican Senate primary results were called in favor of five-term incumbent Mitch McConnell, FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe released the following statement:

“Thanks to the work of thousands of activists across Kentucky, we are building a constituency of liberty and politics is sometimes a lagging indicator,” commented FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe. “When the establishment runs on our issues, it’s clear that there is a larger cultural shift happening here. Constitutional conservatives and libertarians are setting the agenda in the Republican Party.”

“Matt Bevin’s principled challenge helped Senator McConnell rediscover his conservative principles come November. Competition always breeds stronger candidates, and there is an improved conservative candidate heading into the general election as a result.”

“The tireless efforts of grassroots volunteers across the state moved Senator McConnell back to common sense conservative positions that should help him compete in the general election.”

Team McConnell outspent Matt Bevin with $11.4 million to Bevin’s $3.3 million. FreedomWorks for America had a large grassroots presence across the state, distributing over 150,000 door hangers, over 40,000 yard signs, and over 500 field signs from 30 volunteer distribution centers and two field offices. Over 86,200 phone conversations were completed with potential GOP primary voters.

In addition, FreedomWorks for America launched an aggressive online campaign reaching hundreds of thousands of likely conservative voters on the internet using search, display, video, and social advertising.

FreedomWorks for America is a grassroots service center to over 6 million activists supporting candidates who believe in individual liberty and constitutionally-limited government. For more information, please visit www.FreedomWorksForAmerica.org or contact Jackie Bodnar at JBodnar@FreedomWorks.org.
