FreedomWorks Applauds Senate Judiciary Committee for Sentencing Reform Hearing

This afternoon, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on legislation that would make long overdue changes to federal sentencing policies and reforms to the federal corrections system designed to reduce recidivism. Near the conclusion of the hearing on sentencing and prison reform, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“Today’s hearing shows that there is consensus in Congress to get something big done on justice reform, and it transcends traditional ideological lines. With the federal corrections budget growing, now is the time to reform the justice system to ensure that prison space is reserved for those who commit heinous crimes, rather than incarcerating nonviolent offenders for lengthy periods.”

“We’re not venturing into the unknown here. Conservative states like Texas and Georgia have proven that justice reform works. These states took an innovative approach to corrections by focusing on treatment and rehabilitation for offenders. These reforms enhanced public safety, as crime rates continued to fall, and saved taxpayers money.”
