WASHINGTON, D.C. - FreedomWorks applauds Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for introducing an amendment to the Agriculture Improvement Act, S. 3042, which would strengthen work requirements for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and eliminate Obama-era waivers.
Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
“The American people overwhelmingly support work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving government assistance. The Cruz-Lee Amendment is an important step in reversing the trend of increased government dependency that we saw during the Obama administration.
“As President Reagan rightly noted, the success of welfare programs should be judged by how many leave them, and not how many are on them. This amendment will decrease dependence on government assistance and save the taxpayers’ money. We hope this amendment will receive an up or down vote on the Senate floor.”
FreedomWorks also applauds other limited government, free market amendments offered to S. 3042, and encourages Speaker Ryan to allow them to be voted upon on the floor:
