Washington, DC- The House of Representatives voted down wasteful spending legislation H.R. 1947, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act, also known as the “Farm Bill,” by a vote of 195-234.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “The Farm Bill was an insider-driven piece of spending legislation that would have further subsidized large farm corporations at the expense of small family farms. It was an unholy alliance between Democrats who negotiated 80 percent of the bill’s cost to food stamps, and Republicans tied to agricultural corporations who wanted crop subsidies, all at the expense of the taxpayer to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.”
“Stopping the Farm Bill was a first, but important step in reversing Washington’s market-distorting culture of subsidies and handouts, and FreedomWorks plans to continue working towards free-market reform.”
FreedomWorks issued a Key Vote “NO” against the Farm Bill, which will count towards the FreedomWorks Economic Freedom Scorecard for 2013.
