Following the approval of the Email Privacy Act (H.R. 699) by the House Judiciary Committee, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:
“When the Electronic Communications Privacy Act was originally passed by Congress, The Golden Girls was one of the top shows on television, the 8-bit Nintendo was the hot item that every kid wanted, and my Cleveland Browns had a winning record. That was 30 years ago, and this antiquated law is in dire need of an upgrade.”
“Technology has changed so fast, but Congress has been slow to keep pace and ensure that Americans’ digital privacy is protected from government overreach. The Email Privacy Act is a common-sense piece of legislation that would bring ECPA into the 21st Century. We appreciate Chairman Goodlatte and the House Judiciary Committee’s work on this bill, and we urge House leadership to bring it to the floor for a vote.”
