FreedomWorks Endorses Scott Turner for Texas House Speaker

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks announced its endorsement today of Scott Turner for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Turner is taking on Democrat-elected Speaker Joe Straus.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “Joe Straus was put into office by Democrats, and he has voted with the Democrats to raise taxes and increase spending. It’s time for a change.”

Kibbe continued, “Scott Turner has consistently voted to cut taxes, expand school choice and increase transparency in government. Texans want to keep Texas red, and that starts with electing Scott Turner into state leadership.”
A true limited-government conservative, Scott Turner has authored a bill to expand school choice for parents, voted against a bill restricting employers’ ability to set wages, and introduced bills that would make it easier to start small businesses.

Kelly Horsley, an activist with the Texas-based Katy LiberTea group commented, “We’re thrilled that FreedomWorks is supporting Turner because we are lacking conservative leadership here in Texas. Straus continues to work with the Democrats and the GOP establishment to pass their agenda. Turner will be a breath of fresh air. Not only will he listen to the grassroots, but he’ll open up the process in the Texas State House.”

Lawrence Jones, a Garland-based activist added, “The Texas legislature is run by corrupt politicians that are bought and paid for by their donors. The UT scandal shows why we need new leadership, and Scott Turner is the man for the job."
