FreedomWorks Fires Up Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) Effort in Georgia’s U.S. Senate Runoff Election

    11/13/2008

Atlanta, GA - While the majority of races were settled on election night, the outcome of the Georgia Senate race remains undecided. Under Georgia law, a candidate for the U.S. Senate needs to win over fifty percent of the vote. With three contenders in the race to represent Georgia in the Senate, no candidate won an absolute majority. On December 2nd a mandatory runoff election will be held between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin.

FreedomWorks activists in Georgia will be waging a massive “shoe leather” voter education drive from now until the election. The grassroots army will work across the state to educate targeted voters on where the candidates stand on tax relief.

FreedomWorks volunteers will be making thousands of phone calls and visiting with their neighbors by walking door to door to get out the vote on Dec. 2nd. Those interested in becoming a local volunteer leader should contact Allen Page by phone at (336) 213-1167, or by his email apage@freedomworks.org.

This runoff election is not just important to Georgia but to the entire nation. The balance of power in the Senate may very well be at stake. Both former presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama will be traveling to the state to campaign for their favored candidate.

FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe commented: “With the stakes of this election so high, it is important that Georgians know the difference between the two candidates. FreedomWorks will be working endless hours to ensure that Georgians know which candidate supports limited government, and which candidate supports bigger, more intrusive government.”
