The Senate is expected to vote Thursday to limit debate on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve as the next associate justice of the United States Supreme Court. Senate Democrats have the 41 votes needed to filibuster the nomination, blocking Judge Gorsuch's nomination.

Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) bill to audit the Federal Reserve was approved by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform yesterday. The Federal Transparency Act, H.R. 24, was introduced on January 3, this bill directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to complete, within 12 months, an audit of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal Reserve banks. This bill provides oversight and transparency into the Federal Reserve, which is necessary to limiting the Federal government.

In a recent statement on behalf of the US Supreme Court, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas critiqued civil asset forfeiture and the abuses it has seen over the past several issues. In that statement, Justice Thomas said, “This system-where police can seize property with limited judicial oversight and retain it for their own use-has led to egregious and well-chronicled abuses.” The statement comes at a time when civil asset forfeiture, or the lawful seizure of assets from individuals without due process, has gained much more attention in the modern day as calls for reform have increased.

On March 16, the Office of Management and Budget released the President’s proposal for a budget for the fiscal year of 2018. In summation, the President’s budget increased funding for all military related departments and entitlements programs and cut everything else. However, among some of his more controversial cuts was the decision to eliminate funding for the “arts.” Funding for programs such as the National Public Radio (NPR), the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), and other “cultural programs” that having received support from the Federal government has been eliminated.

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), this morning, released President Donald Trump’s budget for FY 2018. The budget blueprint rolled out today would potentially increase spending in other areas yet, overall spending would be cut by 0.3 percent.

Philip Klein of the Washington Examiner and Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute have picked up on an important point from the Congressional Budget Office's score of House Republican leadership's ObamaCare "alternative," the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Klein and Cannon note that more people would have health insurance coverage under the 2015-2016 repeal bill, H.R. 3762, than under the AHCA.

Ahead of the release of his first budget, President Donald Trump, on Monday, signed an executive order directing cabinet departments and federal agencies to submit plans for reorganization to the White House Office of Managment and Budget (OMB). The executive order is, as President Trump said, designed to "make [the federal government] less wasteful and more productive," as well as to "eliminate unnecessary agencies."

Christopher Jacobs has a great piece up over at The Federalist highlighting how the advanceable, refundable tax credits proposed in House Republican leader's ObamaCare "alternative," the American Health Care Act, might wind up taking a Byrd bath in the Senate. He raises a good argument, but other aspects of the bill may also fall victim to the "Byrd rule."
