FreedomWorks Launches TruthInJobs.com to Expose the Unintended Consequences of Government Intervention in the Job Market

Washington, DC- Today, liberal rhetoric collides with reality in the June jobs report, released this morning by the Labor Department. After a 16 month long federal spending spree, the total number of jobs in June 2010 lays 2.4 million below the number of jobs reported in February 2009. Over all, the nation lost 125,000 jobs last month. With these statistics, it is safe to announce President Obama’s plan to “create or save 3 million jobs over the next two years” through the use of an $800 billion stimulus bill, a colossal failure.

The unemployment rate now stands at 9.5 percent, 1.3 percentage points higher than when the Democrat’s “stimulus” program began more than a year ago.  Moreover, that rate may be headed even higher. The 83,000 private sector jobs added in June, and the 33,000 added in May are far below the estimated 150,000 jobs that need to be created just to absorb new entrants into the labor force.

FreedomWorks believes that tax rate cuts and limited government intervention are the only effective path to higher production, employment, and overall economic growth. Increased government spending does nothing to stimulate job growth because it requires the government to take money from taxpayers and private businesses, the very people the government claims to be helping.

To expose the liberal myth that increased government spending and taxation strengthen the economy and lower unemployment rates, FreedomWorks has created TruthInJobs.com. The website aims to set the record straight about the root causes of unemployment and the everyday economic opportunities lost due to increased taxes, regulations and federal spending.

The site also invites the public to share “Make Your Voice Heard,” where stories of lost opportunities can be submitted in written or video format.  We want hard-working Americans to share personal experiences in which jobs were lost, or were not ever created in the first place due to unnecessary costs and restrictions set in place by the government.

“This month’s jobs report is the perfect example of the inverse relationship between government regulation and economic growth,” commented Matt Kibbe, President of FreedomWorks. “So long as the government continues to meddle in the private marketplace, businesses large and small will be unable to work efficiently and create new jobs. TruthInJobs.com intends to shine light on this truth, and provide Americans with an honest and transparent description of both the benefits and damages resulting from the Obama Administration’s economic policies. Although I have a hunch that most of the written and video submissions will be about damages.”
