FreedomWorks Letter Vote YES on H.R. 910 Energy Tax Protection Act of 2011

Dear FreedomWorks member,

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representatives and ask them to vote YES on the H.R. 910 Energy Tax Protection Act of 2011. Introduced by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), the bill would strip the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its ability to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases. Without this legislation, the agency will continue with its plan to implement burdensome new rules and regulations on American businesses that will have a significant negative impact on America’s economy while having virtually no positive impact on global temperatures.

The Clean Air Act was designed to clean up urban air quality and has done so by targeting clearly specified criteria pollutants. The act was never designed to regulate greenhouse gases or as a backdoor tool for a cap and trade program. The majority of Americans have continuously rejected similar plans to regulate greenhouse gases. We cannot allow the American people to be subjected to rules that have not been put through the proper lawmaking process as set forth in our Constitution.

With the official unemployment rate at 8.8 percent, we cannot allow the EPA to carry out its job-killing regulation plans. The EPA using the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases threatens to raise energy costs on all Americans and send more jobs overseas. We must stop any back door cap and trade scheme. The Energy Tax Protection Act of 2011 would prevent the EPA juggernaut from exceeding its mandate to regulate beyond the wishes of the American people and the authority granted to the agency by Congress.

I urge you to call your representatives and ask them to vote YES on Energy Tax Protection Act of 2011. We will count their vote on H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Protection Act of 2011 as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Freedom Scorecard for 2011. The Economic Freedom Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes members of Congress with voting records that support economic freedom.

Sincerely,
