Obama officials ditch ‘exchanges’ in rebranding of healthcare reform law

Dean Clancy, the director of healthcare policy at FreedomWorks, said HHS’s decision to ditch the “exchanges” label shows that opponents of the healthcare law are succeeding. “I think the patient-centered care movement can chalk up a minor victory here,” he said. “If they’re trying to re-label, it means they’re flailing.”

FreedomWorks runs a website, blockexchanges.com, that’s trying to build grassroots opposition to the insurance markets. The effort has taken on heightened importance in the wake of President Obama’s reelection, which killed off any chance of repealing “ObamaCare” in Congress. – Sam Baker, January 20, 2013, Read More

Club for Growth Gives GOP Cover on Debt Vote

FreedomWorks, announced that it would mark down the roll call as a “key vote” and would be urging Republicans to vote “no.”

“Once again, Republican leadership is negotiating with itself to temporarily bail the big spenders out by lifting the U.S. debt limit for four months, with no immediate accompanying budget reforms or spending reductions,” FreedomWorks Legislative Counsel Dean Clancy said in a statement. “Our government is almost $16.5 trillion in debt. That exceeds the entire annual output of the U.S. economy and equals more than $52,000 for every citizen. If that’s not scary enough, those numbers don’t include the more than $100 trillion in unfunded entitlement promises. If this pattern continues, the major credit agencies have threatened once again to downgrade our nation’s credit. This will make paying down the debt even more difficult. And amid all of this, House leadership wants to raise the debt ceiling clean? Get serious, guys. Do your jobs.” – Meredith Shiner, January 22, 2013, Read More

House Republican Leaders Believe They Can Pass Debt Ceiling Bill

As for conservative interest groups, their strategy is mixed on the bill. “The Club for Growth will not oppose tomorrow’s vote on the debt ceiling,” Club President Chris Chocola said in a statement. Note that he didn’t offer support either.

FreedomWorks does oppose the measure. “Once again, Republican leadership is negotiating with itself to temporarily bail the big spenders out by lifting the U.S. debt limit for four months, with no immediate accompanying budget reforms or spending reductions,” the group’s legislative counsel Dean Clancy said in a statement. – NewsMax Wires, January 22, 2013, Read More

Conservatives must reclaim the GOP

Many folks are shocked and bewildered by the recent actions of the Republican Party regarding the “Fiscal Cliff” deal. However, as witness to the operational intricacies of the GOP; I am not surprised and expect more disappointments as Congress navigates the debt ceiling and gun control. I have learned that Republican refers to a political party, while conservatism is a philosophy of limited government. – Anastasia Przybylski, January 22, 2013, Read More

Beforeitsnews.com: FreedomWorks legislative counsel Dean Clancy commented, “This proposal is more of the same. Once again, Republican leadership is negotiating with itself to temporarily bail the big spenders out by lifting the U.S. debt limit for four months, with no immediate accompanying budget reforms or spending reductions.”

Clancy continued, “It’s been almost four years since the Senate fulfilled its Constitutional responsibility to pass a budget. Our government is almost $16.5 trillion in debt. That exceeds the entire annual output of the U.S. economy and equals more than $52,000 for every citizen.” Read More

TheWashingtonPost.com: In contrast, the tea party organization FreedomWorks urged lawmakers to vote against the bill. “Once again, Republican leadership is negotiating with itself to temporarily bail the big spenders out by lifting the U.S. debt limit for four months, with no immediate accompanying budget reforms or spending reductions,” legislative counsel Dean Clancy said.
