Freedom Works 4 million: Libertarian non-profit continues soaring up social media rankings but still way to go to surpass Lady Gaga

An organisation that promotes economic freedoms including voluntary charity giving is continuing to storm the social media non-profit ratings. The libertarian non-profit FreedomWorks, that opposes authoritarian controls and celebrates community values, has reached over 4 million likes on Facebook this week, the main social media network…

The campaigning non-profit group continues to attract thousands of new likes a day. It currently has 4,051,287 likes followed by the next significant not-for-profit at 3,069,156 likes, the campaigning humanitarian non-profit Invisible Children. – Alan Cole, January 8, 2013, Read More

More utility closings to come

An expert on energy regulations does not think new regulations are done forcing utility companies to close down plants. Monday, January 7, Georgia Power announced it will close 15 coal and oil plants — a measure the company says is necessary to comply with federal regulations aimed at reducing air pollution.

Tom Borelli, senior fellow at Freedom Works, reports that more than 400 jobs will be cut as a result of the closings, adding to the already large number of plants and jobs that several utility companies have decided to terminate because of regulations. “What we’re seeing now is the consequences of President Obama’s war on fossil fuels … especially coal,” Borelli contends. “EPA keeps unleashing regulations, and now the industry has to respond. This is going to be continuing as time goes on.” – Chris Woodward, January 10, 2013, Read More

FreedomWorks bucks the Kochtopus: Not funded by the Koch Brothers

The left often makes boogeymen out of Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who supply significant funds to many conservative causues, including Americans for Prosperity. The groups that receive money from this duo are deemed to be part of the “Kochtopus.”

Following the stories coming out of left-wing publications about FreedomWorks, one thing that I’ve found interesting is that we’ve heard a lot about their donors — but nowhere in these stories about leaked memos or a search through contributions to FreedomWorks will you find any mention of the Koch brothers. – Jason Pye, January 11, 2013, Read More

FreedomWorks’ Kibbe: New Year’s Day tax ‘massacre’ is ‘gift that keeps giving’

The fiscal cliff deal cut in the wee hours of New Year’s Day was a late Christmas present, according to FreedomWorks’ Matt Kibbe, whose tea party group plans to capitalize on what he called a tax “massacre” heading into the 2014 midterm elections.

“Our sense is that the New Year’s Day massacre is … unfortunately, is going to be a gift that keeps giving,” Kibbe told The Daily Caller in a phone interview. Asked who was massacred, Kibbe said “the taxpayers … [and] fiscal responsibility are getting massacred.”

“I think, whether we like it or not, this constant budget crisis — which I think is by design — is going to continue to define the congressional debate all the way up until the 2014 election,” he continued. – Alexis Levinson, January 14, 2013, Read More

TheBlaze.com: It’s no secret that many Americans are frustrated with our lawmakers in Washington and their inability to get anything done without drawn-out, petty clashes that leave no one satisfied. Over the last four years we’ve gone from one showdown to another, from Cap-n-trade to health care reform to the debt crisis to fights over the Farm Bill to the Fiscal Cliff, and now a new debt ceiling showdown to start 2013. Studentsforliberty.org: In the most controversial video to hit the libertarian community this year that has had everybody and their professors in an uproar, it was argued that libertarians need to become a “part of popular culture.” I think Ms. Borowski might have pushed her argument off the cliff when she said the reason to go mainstream was to appeal to women, and I think the objections raised by professors Horwitz and Skwire in their piece on Bleeding Heart Libertarians already point out those problems. What these two sides agree on, and what I have noticed as a general trend among libertarians, is as follows. Read More
