FreedomWorks NC Mobilizes on Local Zoning Issue

HENDERSON, N.C. Monday night December 19, at the American Legion Hall in Henderson, a group of concerned landowners and others, including two Vance County commissioners, met to hear a property rights lecture and presentation by Mr. Chad Adams of The John Locke Foundation.

Mr. Adams expressed concern that the Vance County Commission has violated the law by refusing to release public documents about proposed county-wide zoning.

Telling the audience that zoning does, in fact, take away property rights, Mr. Adams went on to say that Vance County faces more serious problems than trying to implement zoning. He pointed to five or six more pressing issues (such as education and Medicaid) that, if addressed properly, would make Vance County more attractive for industry. In fact, he said that zoning will not solve any problems within a county.

He stressed that with subdivision regulations in place, Vance County may indeed have all the zoning it needs. Regardless, if zoning is ever again addressed in Vance County, citizens should be involved in the process from the beginning and should take the lead in the effort.

Our thanks to Mr. Allen Page and Mr. Chad Adams for taking time from their busy schedules to assist us in our battle against county-wide zoning.
