FreedomWorks North Carolina Battles to the Finish on Cable Choice

On Thursday, June 24, H2047, “Video Service Competition Act” passed Second Reading in the House. The vote followed numerous overwhelmingly defeated amendments and a great deal of debate. One of the bill sponsors, Representative Becky Carney, D-Mecklenburg, rose to explain the bill referring to H2047 as “the consumer’s bill” and exclaiming “I submit to you my colleagues that this is an exciting day for the consumers of North Carolina”. Only twelve Representatives voted against cable choice in second reading: L. Allen, Almond, Bordsen, Fisher, Goodwin, Harrison, Insko, Kiser, Luebke, Ross, Sauls, and Weiss. It is interesting to note that Representative Paul Luebke, a primary sponsor of H2047, ultimately voted against the bill. H2047 is scheduled for final vote, Third Reading, in the House on Monday evening.

After passing Third Reading in the House and having received favorable reports from Senate Commerce and Senate Finance, the only remaining hurdle will be the full vote of the Senate. WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT CABLE CHOICE IN NORTH CAROLINA!
