On Thursday, June 14, North Carolina FreedomWorks activists concerned about forced annexation visited state senators and representatives.
Activists delivered letters asking legislators to "not only support but to advocate for changing our antiquated annexation law". The visits followed an evening hearing of the Committee on Rules of the House. The public hearing regarded studying Municipal Annexation (House Bill 86).
North Carolina FreedomWorks members believe that study and change of our annexation law is long overdue. The North Carolina annexation law is 47 years old. 46 other states now give their citizens a voice about whether they wish to be annexed. We believe very strongly that our citizens deserve to be given that same choice of voicing their opinion at the ballot box.
