FreedomWorks Oregon Launches Campaign for Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE)

Portland, OR – High energy prices hurt Oregon families and cost the community good paying jobs.  Looking to the future, Oregon needs to have a diverse portfolio of energy choices to support long term economic growth and ease family budgets.

Unfortunately, too often sensible energy solutions are blocked by anti-energy extremists opposed even to developing renewable energy sources such as geothermal, wave, hydro, natural gas, and wind.

FreedomWorks Oregon is preparing to launch the Campaign for Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE), a major grassroots and media campaign promoting the development of clean, affordable, and reliable sources of energy and also exposing how anti-energy radicals are opposed not just to energy development, but to our modern way of life.

FreedomWorks Oregon Director Russ Walker was joined by economist Bill Conerly, members of the Oregon legislature, along with consumers, small business owners, and farmers to discuss how they have all been hit hard by spiraling energy costs.

As part of the CARE campaign launch, FreedomWorks distributed results of a new poll taken of Oregon voters focusing on energy issues and unveiled the campaign website www.LightsOnOregon.com.

FreedomWorks Oregon Director Russ Walker commented:

“Oregonians do not have to choose between reliable energy and the environment.  Existing technologies and new sources of energy can both be leveraged to provide clean and reliable energy.   We can develop clean sources of energy right here in Oregon so we have the power we need to live our lives.  Brownouts and $7 gas are not a joke.  The overwhelming majority of Oregonians want to unlock domestic energy supplies so we are not dependent upon hostile foreign countries to fuel our cars and to keep the lights on.”

The CARE campaign is part of a larger national voter education and turnout effort by FreedomWorks to unlock domestic and emerging sources of energy for American consumers.   FreedomWorks is a grassroots organization with over a half a million members nationwide and over 30,000 activists in Oregon dedicated to lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.
